Okay, so I have one chapter left that's written before we reach my planning. Thanks for understanding why I decided not to finish my fanfics and supporting it! -Becca

I sigh as my doorbell rings and I'm forced to get up off of the couch. I open the door and all of my resentment immediately disappears when I see Jay standing there with a bouquet of assorted flowers and a case of beer. I let him in my apartment and as he's taking off his shoes I say, "Did someone let you in the building?"

He laughs and says, "Technically, but I really just pulled my badge on someone that was smoking outside the doors so without much resistance they let me in. If someone hadn't been outside though, my other idea was to ask one of your neighbours to buzz me in."

I chuckle and reply, "Good thing you didn't have to do that. I live in the middle of two old couples who I upset within my first month of being here. I guess my boyfriend at the time and I were a little too rowdy for their liking."

Jay has a good laugh at that and then he says, "Anyway, I wanted to come over and make sure you were doing okay. I know losing that guy and having the case transferred over to homicide really got to you today."

I shrug and say, "Of course it hit me hard, it's my fault he got away. I just wasn't fast enough. Regardless, you really know the way to my heart. Good beer and beautiful flowers."

Jay chuckles as I set the vase with the flowers in them on my dining room table. I then grab the beer Jay has opened for me and take a seat beside him on the couch. He wraps his muscular arm around me and then places a soft kiss on my forehead. I smile and then take a sip of my beer. We sit in silence for a few minutes until Jay breaks it by saying, "Tell me something I don't know about you."

After thinking for a few moments I say, "The first kickboxing match my parents came to I was so nervous that my fighting technique wasn't what it usually was. My opponent hit me full force in the face on her first punch and I was caught off balance. My head hit the floor of the ring first and I went unconscious immediately. I woke up in the hospital a few days later and the doctor's told me I was lucky all I needed was a little facial reconstruction surgery and all I had was a concussion. They said my potential for a neck or spine injury was very high."

Jay's eyes go wide and I say, "Yea wow, I know. Now it's your turn to share."

He sighs and says, "I did two tours overseas when I was with the Army Rangers. The first one went well but on the second our convoy passed over a land mine. Most of the guys in my group were killed and those of us who weren't were badly injured. We were all shipped back to the U.S. immediately and the doctors here thought they'd have to amputate both of my legs but managed to save them. I went through lots of rehab and had pretty bad PTSD but I was able to fight through both and managed to land a position at the CPD when I finally had the PTSD under control."

After what I've just heard sinks in I say, "Wow. I don't even know what to say, it's so unbelievable. Sorry doesn't even begin to do it justice."

He nods and we continue to talk until Jay decides to spend the night. We then begin getting ready for bed.
