Chapter 57

-LYNN'S P.O.V-

She's only getting worse. It's strange how quickly it was happening. But at the same time, not so much. I can now look back and see where it all really started.
Like a couple of months ago, I thought it was period behaviour. But then I remembered.. Jamie doesn't get periods with her birth control.
And it slowly became worse. I even remember a few times... where in sex.. everything changed.
Could that mean her breaking her hand was part of it? That she was so scared it bounced to anger? Is she really in constant fear of me?
"Come on, Lynn! Come dance!" Abby yells at me.
"Naaaah. I'm good"
Jamie takes my hand. "At least slow dance with me?"
And it's the real her talking.
"Of course, Koala."
We dance. We dance our hearts content for the next 10 minutes and our necklaces linked. And she is here.

"Want to be my new years kiss, Jamie?"

"Yes, Ly."
6.. 5..
"This time next year, you'll be my wife. And I'll kiss my wife."
Her smile shows everything.

We both lean in..

The kiss is magical. It only lasts until everyone around us starts to pull away from their partners in cheer. She holds on to me tightly, leaning up closer.
"Please take me home, Ly."
Just in the tone of her voice, I know it's not her.
"Of course, my King."
I lift her up, her latching on like the Koala she has always been. Everyone so in love they don't even notice our silent slip out.
A few days. A few days and it will be taken out of her. I'll get her back for a while before chemo takes her.

Finally crashing in our bed seems like a blessing.
"I had fun tonight, Ly."
I look into her eyes to register which Jamie that is speaking. Mine.
"Me too, Koala."
"You plan for a next year?"
... that's.. not Jamie..
"Yeah, I do. We'll be married. And we should be moved into our own house."
"That would be nice."
"You say like it isn't going to happen, Jamie. It will. I will make it happen. I will fight with you. I will be there for you. In 6 months you'll be my wife. We'll wait for you to finish your treatments and then I'm going to take you around the world. And then everything will begin. We will come home, regain our funds and leave this place. Have a house of our own. One I can make you scream my name for the heavens to hear in climax in every room if I want to."
Her giggles grow at my rant.
"And then we're going to have Alex. And she's going to be a handful."
"You'll have her?"
"I think so. We can get into that later. Let me finish my rant."
"Okay, okay. All you, Boss."
"And every anniversary I'm going to propose again. I'll keep my girl happy forever. There is a life after this, Jamie. You just have to fight for it with me."
"I am. I will."
"Good cause my dumbass will probably end up crashing and burning."
"You'll make a great mom."
"So will you."
She laughs for a moment.
"Maybe a great second kid."
"HEY. I'm not all that bad." She slaps my arms and pushes me against the bed.
I laugh as she crawls on top of me and flops down. Our hearts clink together. She takes them in her hand and laughs.
"They're really cheesy."
"I love them. I really, really love them. I love how they always connect when close."
She holds them tightly in her hand and she makes herself comfortable in my arms. Things slow down.
"I can't wait."
"What?"
"To be free, Ly. To be able to be here for longer than an hour. I can't wait to be able to give you all of me."
"I already have all of you, silly."
"You know what I mean."
I do. And it's okay. I'll wait for her.
"I know you will."
"Still mildly annoying." I pause.
"So when we have kids and you read that I want to strangle them. What will you do?"
"Probably prepare for the executions."
I start laughing. But she isn't.
"You weren't kidding?"
"Yeah, I was. Just too tired to laugh, babe."
"Sleep...."
"If I sleep, will I wake lucid?"
"We will deal with it then."
"Together?"
"Forever."
"And always."
She takes a deep breath and everything begins to even. Her heart slows down, and breaths calm.
"Jamie." I whispers.
"Mm."
"Jamie." I finish pushing her over the edge. It doesn't take much...
"I love you, Ly."
"I love you too, Koala."
