-JAMIE'S P.O.V-

Got to admit, things are crazy right now. We have Christmas tomorrow. Lynn's family came up and I don't fucking know them. I'm shy as shit.
Not to mention, I'm not myself. I come in and out. But mainly I'm completely random. I can't filter it. They said it was a growing tumor, and they're right. They have to be.
I shouldn't be in and out of my own body like I am. When I'm pushes back out of the light, the rest of me goes on autopilot. I feel so sorry for Lynn..
I begged mom to keep this between us until the chemo starts because then.. well then I will have no choice but to tell. I just don't want anyone else getting hurt over me.
"Koala?"
And hearing her voice but not quite being able to reach only pains me. But I still try.
"Come back to me baby."
She can easily bring me back into the light. Even if it's for a small moment. I look into her eyes, always lined with worry.
"I'm here."
"I love you."
I love how she simply brings me forward... just to say that.
"I love you too, Ly."
A small kiss is pressed to my forehead.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
It's not but I'm glad she's here.
"Hey grandma, pass the mashpatatos."
Her grandma passes her the potatos. All her family are here for her, they're all nice. I mean, to what I've seen. And her baby cousins are adorable.
"Your mother would be so proud of you, Lynndsie. Look at her, she's out of your league."
"Yeah, she is, grandma."
Mother? She doesn't talk about her mom often... or at all. Maybe she will one day, I won't push because she hasn't pushed.
"When is the wedding?" Her uncle asks.
"August 4th."
"So soon?"
"No, we've been engaged for a better part of a year now."
Yeah, we have. It's shocking to think so... But we have.
"You two are so young tho" her aunt, I assume, elbows him in the ribs.
"We were young too, Rob. Shut up and leave them alone."
I finally find my voice and laugh a little. Lynn chimes in and then everyone else. Lynn pulls me closer to her and someone gets a picture.
"HEY WHO DID THAT?"
"No one, Lynn. Chill." Her uncle says.
"Excuse me, I beg to differ."
"But it's cute." Father says.
"Stop being a baby, Ly."
"LY!?" Her oldest cousin yells. I shrink.
Jesus... fuck.
"Koala."
"OH MY GOD IT'S SO CUTE I'M GOING TO DIE." She yells again..
And you're so fucking loud I'm going to die. Lynn takes the hint and pulls me closer.
"Calm down, Ashley. You'll scare the poor girl. She won't want to marry into this mess."
"I wouldn't leave her because of a crazy family. You will meet mine at the wedding, they're just as nuts."
"Are we all invited?" Her cousin asks.
I nod and they all cheer. Lynn whispers in my ear
"Are you feeling okay?"
I squeeze her hand for her answer.

Everyone has left now and will be back in the morning. Not enough room for everyone to sleep in the same house. It's okay. But tomorrow we have to split locations. Morning here, afternoon mom's.
"My family loves you. Thinks you're too good for me but loves you."
"I'm not too good for you. Other way around."
I am in the light.
"You did good, baby. I'm proud of you."
"I tried."
I sit on the edge of the bed.
"I want to be there tomorrow. For you. I want to be here for you."
"I know. And you will be."
"And if I can't control it?"
"You will do fine either way. You have me, Koala. It will be okay."
I nod and she pulls me on top of her.
"My family in the morning around 9. But you can't have all the bacon."
"That sucks."
She laughs. "I'll make a special batch for you later on."
"Sweet."
"And then your family around 3."
"Yep."
"Last time I saw them I was just the girlfriend."
"And now in 6 months you're the wife."
"Yeah. And proud to be."
I take a deep breath. I'm happy here. Home here. And somehow even if I'm not me, I never have failed to say the words. Nor tell her of her beauty.
"You're beautiful, Ly."
"You said that already."
"As your fiancee, I have all rights to say it every second if I want to."
"All rights given, my king."
"You're silly."
"And you're adorable."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. We'll pull through, baby. It's okay."
I grab her hand under the blankets and hold into it as if it's the only thing anchoring me down. Which Lynn is. Her hand squeezed mine.
"Think maybe we should sleep, Love. We do have a day of adventure tomorrow."
One I have a feeling I won't be there for. But will be... just out of the light.
"I don't want to sleep yet. I don't want to leave."
"Jamie." She coos.
"No."
"Jamie." She whispers quieter.
"Nmm."
"Jamie."

I feel myself slipping. But I know it's for the best. Rest will do me good.
"Jamie."
"Nn."
"Jamie." Her whisper sends me over.
"I love you, Ly."
"I love you more, Koala." I want to protest but I'm too far from my voice.
