Forgive and forget, then, move on

"I'm going to work Babe, I'll be back at 6. Goodbye Lex' "She said giving a quick kiss to Toby.

That is an example of sentences that Spencer has been saying every morning for the past 16 years. She said it when she came back to work a month after giving birth when she was 24, she said it the day Lexie entered pre-school, the day Toby got promoted, the day they celebrated their 10 years wedding anniversary... It was an habit of hers and Toby knew that, the day she wouldn't be saying this would mean that something bad was happening. The only time she didn't say it was when she got that phone call one morning, saying that both her parents passed away in a car crash and he noticed it right away.

Toby is very caring, that's what Spencer always loved about him, that and many more things.
They met in college and got married at 25 without knowing she was pregnant until a few weeks later. Since then, everything has been working great. Lexie is almost 16 and started high-school this year. She wasn't much trouble but she was still a teenager so, you never know what the expect. She always was closer to Spencer because of all the common things they shared mentally like, their dream jobs, movies, music and books, but Toby and her shared a special bond as well: he told her the stuff she had trouble saying out loud, he was kind of her confident.

Toby was a writer, that's why he was working home on his computer everyday. Despite working a lot, he always got the time to do what Spencer couldn't do when she was working late: it's a system they had that always worked and he was fine with it. Writing can wait unlike hungry baby Lexie, or hungry teenage Lexie.. Or just hungry Lexie for that matter.

One night, Spencer came back at 6 like announced and walked into the kitchen in which Toby was preparing dinner (cutting carrots to be precise)

«Heyy love. Had a good day?» He said in a cheerful voice

«I did but I'm pretty sure yours was better from your voice» she chuckled, taking of her coat.

«Yes we can say that. I'll tell you about it when Lexie shows up, it's important» he smiled

«She's in her room again?»

«On the phone I think. She's been talking for like an hour or something»

«Why don't she come here. That never bothered her not us to stay on the phone next to us» Spencer said, confused

«Weren't you in love at her age?» Toby let out a laugh

«Shut up!» she slapped his arm playfully «My little baby is not in a relationship. Not until marriage»

«You do realize that to get married you need to be in one right? »

«Yes. Well then she'll be single all her life. No one is touching my little girl» Spencer pouted

Toby stopped cutting and put his hands around Spencer's waist
«Our little girl is growing up isn't she?» he sighted

«And I'm getting older everyday yes. You know that there are some stuff that are obvious but that don't necessarily need to be said Tob's?» she joked, putting her arms around his waist

«And you know that I've really missed you today?» he said leaning in

«Well why don't you show me how much?» she smirked, kissing him passionately

«Well Hey mom» Lexie arrived in the kitchen, coughing and interrupting the kiss « Sorry to interrupt whatever this is but I'm hungry. »
