There are two types of breakups: the one when the two people stay in touch and the breakup is mutual, and the other one.
The other one is more "violent", usually it ends up with the two people hating each other's guts and not wanting to see each other.
It's okay when you have different groups of friends but for Spencer and Toby it wasn't that way.
They were a really tight group of high schoolers before the breakup, but after that they had to see the two separately because every time they forced them to stay with the group it was a buzzkill.

Aria, Alison, Emily, Hanna, Caleb and Ezra [same age on this fic] were sick of this but they still managed to handle it.
One afternoon, it was shopping time between the girls.

«Could we go to this ice cream shop?» Hanna said as they went out of H&M «I'm so hungry and it's hot as fuck»

«I could go for some ice cream» Spencer smiled and the others nodded

Once they all got one cone 10 minutes later, Spencer looked at her phone and asked
«Hey! How about we go to the movies tomorrow night? It's been a while since we've done movie night at the cinema»

The others looked at each other with embarrassment and Spencer's smile faded.
«What? Do I have ice cream on my face or?»

«No your face is fine» Aria said

«It's just that we have something planned tomorrow. We have a movie night planned actually»

«Well, what's the problem? You don't want to include me ?»

«No that's not it... It's just that we promised Toby and the guys» Emily continued

«Oh.... Sure» She said looking away.

«Spencer...» Hanna said «Don't take this the wrong way»

«No why would I? You're just ditching me to go spend the night with my ex boyfriend no sure» She raised her eyes

Alison went for the though love and raised her voice
«Well sorry Spencer but Toby is our friend too! What are we supposed to do? A month ago you were all over him and now you hate him but he's still our friend!»

«I- I don't hate him! I just don't want to see him anymore is that so hard to understand?»

«Yes! Yes it is. Because at some point you two are gonna have to act like adults and face each other if you want us all to hang out together again. If you two can't do that then stop complaining because we're getting sick of it»

«Is that what you think?» Spencer asked, looking at the others

«Well... It's like. We still don't know why you broke up exactly and we don't understand-» Aria started before getting interrupted by Spencer.

«I can't believe you would say this! » She dropped her ice cream on the floor «Yes we were a couple. Yes i loved him but now it's over damn it! We couldn't stop fighting it was not worth continuing can't you understand that?! If I see him again I- »

«You know what I think?» Hanna said «I think you're scared. You're scared because you still love him. Because to be honest, your breakup was just stupid. Who break up because they fight? You know better Spencer! But back then you didn't and now you regret it!»

«Oh my god ! You think I'm that low? Is that what you think of me? This girl who's still hung up to her ex like this? »
