Luck
Some people think that luck is just totally random, some others think it has something to do with faith, some think it is Karma related, but me?
I just think that it depends on if you believe in it or not. You will never see yourself as lucky if you don't believe there is such a thing as "luck".
It works with everything: you will never be happy if you don't believe in happiness, you will never be in love if you don't believe in love, you will never cry if you don't believe in sadness..Personally, I never believed in luck, well, in positive luck. That day is one that can confirm that only bad luck was after me.
.
But let me recapitulate the situation for you:
As a writer, I get to travel a lot. I always told myself that I would go everywhere when I was a kid, and I followed that dream ever since.
So, on this April day, I was in Italy to sign copies of my book. For some reason, I was more famous in Europe than in the US but, who am I to complain about it?So this morning when I got up, everything was planned. I was done and could finally go back home in Boston.
My flight was at 5pm and I woke up at 10am just to be sure I wouldn't be late.
I checked my suitcase one last time before leaving and left at noon: I figured I could eat something on the way over the airport.
The problem with Italy is that it's not really easy to go from one place to another. Most of the time you get lost really easily. That's why I didn't take the risk to miss my flight and immediately called a cab, no matter what it could cost me.After two hours in the traffic of the Italian roads on a Sunday afternoon, I was already at the airport.
I went to a bakery and bought myself a sandwich, it tasted awful and costed half of my book but I was really hungry. I sat in a corner, waiting for me to get checked in and opened my computer to write a bit.
I didn't have much ideas, I was tired and just wanted to get home so I ended up watching a Rick & Morty episode on Netflix. After 30 minutes, my plane number got called and I walked towards the gates as well as many, many other people. I didn't really mind the people, I mean, I was one of them after all.The troubles began when I gave my tickets to the receptionist before going in.
«Good afternoon» I said with a smile
«Good Afternoon. Tickets please» she answered with a smile as well. Hopefully she spoke English.
«Here» I handed them to her.
«Perfect. You appear to be on sit number-» she stopped talking, a worried look on her face
«Is something wrong?»
«Well, it appears that your seat was already taken by someone else.»
«How is that possible?» I said, getting mad a bit «I booked this three weeks ago I know my ticket is fine»
«No it's not you. It's the company. Sometimes our computers can mess up as well. I'm going to ask you to step aside so I can let the others in-»
«What about me? I'm just supposed to miss my flight? »
«Sir, we'll take care of you in a few minutes I Promise. I just need to call my supervisor»
