In the pov of Mei

I was lying on my couch at home. I had gotten off work early today to prepare for my visit to the Yakuza's base, or so my boss said to me.

But to tell the truth, I don't want to prepare anything.

I will probably just go there like this, wearing my simple blue blouse and jeans. Hair untidily wrapped in a bun on top of my head.

The clock was ticking dreadfully towards three o'clock when I would have to leave.

Tick, tick, tick, tick, clack.

The clock hit three, and I sighed, pushing myself up from the couch.

I unwrapped my bun and put on my coat, stepping out of the house, locking the door with an old-fashioned key. I just don't trust electric locks the same.

I walked down the road to a bus stop and checked the schedule.

The next bus towards the area he lived in would come in four minutes. So I sat down and looked towards where it would come from.

It was on time, and after four minutes, a silver cube-like bus appeared from behind the corner. Its walls were primarily made of glass, and its bottom was shining blue light, and it was hovering 20 centimeters from the ground.

My mother told me busses used to have wheels before humankind invented a way of controlling gravity. It was the greatest discovery of the century. They found the graviton, the particle that allows us to experience gravity—with this discovery, humankind soon learned how to use it to reverse gravity. The process takes a lot of energy provided by either small fusion reactors within the cars or solar power. Making the vehicle hover removes many problems like accidents caused by objects on the road.

Some cars are still the old model with wheels, but they all run with solar or nuclear energy.

Due to the new technology, the air has been cleaned, and there's no trace of the pollution left behind by our ancestors. Polluting has been banned internationally, and the Earth is doing better than it ever has. Well, except for the fact that dictatorships are currently running the world.

I waved for the bus to stop and stepped in. I flashed my bus card to the robot in charge of driving.

"Welcome, Ichinose Mei; please enjoy your drive." I walked to the back of the bus and sat down.

Nowadays, robots are in charge of driving public transportation, but some rich people still have their drivers, and some drive themselves if they have cars.

It's rare to have a car. You need to be at least code five or have special permission to own one if you need it, for example, in your job.

The bus arrived at the nearest stop from the address where I was going, so I stepped out and started walking.

The weather was cold as it was winter. Christmas was coming soon, and you could see it from the houses as they were covered in ornaments.

I reached the address and sighed, looking at the enormous traditional Japanese mansion gate.

It was huge, and it definitely kept intruders away. I checked the clock.
