The world is corrupt. Everyone knows that. It's not just my country, Japan, but the world as a whole is rotten to the core.

How did it happen? No one knows, really. We just one day realized that all the politicians had been bribed, and no one could touch the Yakuza anymore. My guess is that it happened when all the yakuza families started working together under one family.

The Yakuza consists of four main families—one of them ruling the others and the smaller families under them.

The Aizukotetsu-Kai is in charge of controlling the military and the police. They make sure no one breaks the law. They are one of the most feared families. You don't want to cross them, or you could end up spending the rest of your life in prison without parole. However, most people are grateful for them as they have brought down gang unrelated violent crime massively. Thanks to them, an ordinary person who doesn't get near the mafia is unlikely ever to experience violent crime. They are a significant part of the Yakuza's military might.

The Inagawa-Kai is in charge of land development and infrastructure. They ensure the country stays at the top in architecture and that everyone wishing to build has the proper credits. Apart from being skilled fighters, this family boasts intelligence. Apart from land development, they are highly involved in politics and international affairs.

The Sumiyoshi-Kai is the second in command and the second largest Yakuza family. They are in charge of the ports and airports. They make sure no one who is not allowed doesn't get in or out of the country.

And finally, the Yamaguchi-Gumi, the family leading all the others. The family that can't be told no. The family with absolute authority over every decision.

And the leader is a single man leading a massive amount of dedicated and loyal criminals.

I'm not saying our lives became worse, no in actuality, the rate of irregular crimes dropped after the Yakuza started leading the country openly.

They won't hurt us if we stay loyal to the Japanese mafia; they won't hurt us unless we help the nonlocal mafias or attempt to work against them.

Of course, there are constantly murders and beatings, but ordinary people won't find out about them. I know about them because I work as a surgeon in a hospital where the victims are taken in the end.

The police won't do anything if it involves the mafia. They are only in charge of the irregular crimes committed by ordinary people, and even in those, they have the help of the Aizukotetsu-Kai. The Yakuza bribed even them.

Why should we try to do anything? As long as we don't do anything unnecessary, we can live in peace, which is all that matters to me. Peace for myself and my family.

I yawned. I was walking home from work, and I was exhausted. The Yakuza had come to the hospital with some injuries. It seems like they finally collided with the Chinese mafia that's been causing trouble lately.

It seems like they won too. They are a rowdy bunch, but they don't seem that evil. They seem relatively normal, actually.

I tugged my red jacket tighter around me. It was early winter, but we didn't have any snow. My breath, however, froze in the air. I looked at the frozen water particles in thought.

I should get myself a car. Walking home every night bothers me. I could use the bus, but I see it as a waste of money as I live close to my hospital and no bus comes around this part of the city. The nearest stop is kilometers away.

I have high enough credibility to get a car, but It just is quite hard to get only the richest of the rich have one. So even though I would technically be allowed to get one, I doubt I have enough money to buy one.
