In the pov of Ken

I was sitting on my knees in my room's tatami in front of my sealed katana.

I had my eyes closed, and I was wearing a traditional men's yukata. My hair was open.

I silently opened my eyes and looked in front of me towards the door that led to the garden.

I was to fulfill my master's request today.

For now, I have decided not to kill that man. This is because killing him could backfire as ojou-san is really close to him. Master doesn't have enough emotional maturity to realize he could easily make her distaste towards him hate if he acted wrong. Sometimes I have to work according to my instincts in matters such as these. The way master was treated as a child simply destroyed any common sense he might have had regarding emotions.

Among the subordinates, I hold the highest position. This is because I have been on my master's side ever since I was a child, and the master saved me from starving to the streets.

I don't know anything about my lineage, but he still accepted me and gave me my name. Kennichiro Hakamada and gave me also the nickname Ken. Looking at how I was on the streets, I was most likely the child of a criminal or a poor level two family. So I doubted that I had much Japanese blood in me. But that didn't change my loyalty to him. A part of it is because of the meaning of the name he gave me.

Ken comes from the word for sword.

Ever since that day, I have been my master's sword. I have killed all the opponents my master wished. I have been destroying all the obstacles. I have silenced all threats.

I'm my master's shield. My life belongs to my master as he was the one who named me.

I stood up and took my katana. I put it around my waist and left my room through the garden.

I was just about to exit when I heard a female voice shouting at me.

"Are you going somewhere, Ken?" It's Riri.

She is a maid that works for the household. She's been here for as long as I can remember. She was also the girl who looked after me when I was brought here, all starved and beaten for the first time. She is the child of a previous servant who continued serving the Yamaguchi family.

I believe she's ojou-san's personal maid nowadays.

"Just some work Riri. Shouldn't you be working as well?" She frowned.

"Well yeah, but to tell the truth, I don't really have anything. That ojou-san just keeps doing everything herself."

I laughed slightly.

That's pretty much who she is.

"But isn't that part of the reason master likes her so much? So it would help if you tried being friends with her. I think she would appreciate a female friend among all these men."

"I mean, I guess I could try talking with her more." I smiled. "That's the spirit. Well, I need to go now. Take care of the house, Riri." She huffed and smiled back at me.

"Of course, I will." I watched as she walked back to the house, hitting her feet loudly to the ground.

She's so cute.

But now, let's take on a more serious note.

I left the house driving the black car.

I had run a background check on that man, and I know where I could find him during this time.

He should be at a slightly off the roadside cafe.

He works there.

I pulled to the side of the road and drove to a forest where the cafe was located.

I have to say it's a terrible spot for business, but there were people around the cafe and cars parked in the yard, to my surprise.

I pulled my car over and walked into the cafe.

My senses told me that this was a wrong move.

The cafe wasn't bustling with customers but with thugs, and they weren't with us.

I counted them without looking around too much.

There were around twenty-five people.

My eyes landed on a man sitting on a couch. His legs and arms were crossed, and he was clearly the leader.

I allowed my hand to fall on my sword.

I also had my guns, but my sword is more practical when in close proximity.

The leader's hair was dark brown, and eyes were the same shade. His hair had been styled messily above his head. He was wearing a blue vest and on his hand was a bandage.

I knew the man.

He was my target, and as I realized that, I bit my lip, this was troublesome.

I looked around the cafe and saw multiple posters in Chinese.

This can't be.

I'm in trouble.

I didn't think this would be a challenging job, so I didn't take any of the men with me.

The leader smirked at me.

"Look who's here if it isn't the Japanese dog's favorite toy. So let me guess you are here to talk about Meichi with me."

I need to allow him to blabber to secure a way out of here.

"Meichi? Such a rude way to call our nation's fairest Ojou-san and my future mistress."

He flinched.

Good. I seem to have startled him a little.

"Ojou-san? Future mistress? What would you mean by that?" He talked fluent Japanese, but clearly, the men around us had trouble understanding.

"Could it be you didn't know? Ojou-san didn't tell you that she received a proposal from the master and that she's his fiancé? So, to tell the truth, I came here today to tell you to stay away from her. She is a lady to be married after all."

That's a little thick, but it's partly the truth. She will marry master someday. She just hasn't acknowledged that yet.

"Hoo? I was wondering what you had done to my Meichi. But to think you would force a marriage on her?" I looked at him, surprised.

"Force? There's no such a thing." He smirked.

"It has to be like that. Meichi, you see, can't feel love. Well, more precisely, she doesn't allow herself to feel love. Since she was little, her parents told her not to allow anyone close to her. So even though I can be said to be close, I still am not. She pushes people away and never shows them any weakness. I have never seen that girl scared, you know."

I smiled. She's just like a master in that aspect.

"Well, how can you be sure that she hasn't opened up to my master? And maybe she just doesn't like you." But, of course, at this point, I was just teasing him.

She hasn't opened up. Not yet, at least.

"Aren't you a quirky bastard?"

He raised his arm slightly and said something in Chinese.

All of the men plunged towards me.

I pulled out my sword and slashed three men down with a long and skillful strike.

I slashed down three more before I got a hit myself from behind.

As I thought, twenty-five versus one is too much.

But I won't fall without a fight.

I managed to take out half of the men before one of them managed to kick me hard enough for me to fall and drop my katana.

As I had fallen, I couldn't get up anymore. I just felt kicks on my sides before my eyes finally went dark, and my consciousness faded.

I only thought about a single girl. Riri.
