Time flies when you have fun. It was already dark and everybody was leaving. Everyone smiled at me on their way out telling me how good it was to see me again. Except for Rin, he just flashed a smile and headed out, no hugging, no words coming out from his mouth. I haven't seen him in so long... But I had the promise of meeting him early next morning.
I closed the door and headed to the kitchen again. Mako and Haru were there, at a safe distance, my cheeks blushed slightly when I remembered what I had heard a few hours ago.
-Hey guys- I said piling up the dirty dishes.
-Hey- they both answered.
Haru left few seconds later to go to the bathroom and I was left alone with Makoto. I busied myself by trying to organize the dirty plates in the dishwasher, and then putting the soap in one of its holes. I took out the garbage and returned to the kitchen to see if I've missed a spot or something. And I just found Makoto still sitting on the same spot.
-Are you going to stay there forever?- I asked him.
-Uh? No-no, I just... Haru's still in the bathroom.
-He's probably in the bathtub by now, you should go and check- I said failing at not blushing.
-Noah, you heard us, didn't you?
-Heard what?- I asked trying to act dumb. It was as uncomfortable to talk about it for me as it was for him.
-Haru and me, in his room...
-Yeah...
-You don't have any complaints? Or anything to say about us?
-Why would I? It surprised me, yes, but I'm not in the place to judge or anything.
-So you don't mind...?
-Of course, not. Just try to keep it down while I'm here.
He blushed.
-Of course, of course, so-sorry about that- he said rubbing his neck and giving me one of his great smiles.
-No need to apologise, really.
-You're the best. Thank you.
I smiled gently and offered him a cup of tea, which he accepted. He seemed more relaxed. I poured tea in two cups and sat in front of him.
-When did you start dating?- I asked.
-To tell you the truth, I don't really know. I feel like this feeling it's been there for the longest time, and we didn't do anything about it, maybe cause we didn't understand what it meant. But just before Haru left for Kyoto, we did, we understood and embraced it as if we've always known. As if we just had to put a name to it.
-I guess love confuses you, uh? You don't really get the feeling and suddenly it's there, and it always has been there...right under your nose.
-Exactly. What about you?
-What about me?
-Have you been in love?
-Not really. I keep telling myself I'm too young, too naive, too inexperienced. I just have to meet people and know what I like, and before I know it, I'll find a person to love and it'll be mutual.
-I think you've found it already, but you haven't realized that.
-Maybe, yeah. Who knows?
Mako smiled, and I felt jealousy towards Haru. He's found just the right person to love: someone that will return it and protect his heart.
-Am I the first one to know?- I asked suddenly.
-Yeah.
-Why?
-We don't really know how to talk about it with the others.
-Maybe they already know, or suspect at least.
-Maybe Sousuke does...
-But not the ones that you truly care for.
He nodded.
-What does Haru think about it?- I asked.
-He doesn't care if they know or not.
-Well, you shouldn't care either. It's your life. But, you do care. So, how are you planning on telling them?
-I wanted to get them together and just say it. There's no need to go around the bush. Just like "Haru and I are together".
-"So deal with it".
He laughed a bit, that seemed to ease him.
-Yeah, something like that.
-Then do it, there's no need to hide it, so just go for it.
-Do you think they will...understand?
-Yeah, I'm sure of it.
-Really?
-Makoto you act like you don't know them. I'm sure they'd be more than happy for you two.
-Thank you Noah- he said smiling and showing me his teary eyes.
-Don't cry Mako- I said cleaning up a single tear that fell from his eye.
-I'm just happy to have told this to someone, and I'm sorry that you heard us earlier and found out that way.
-At least you were inside a room and not in the kitchen or in the hallway or anything like that.
Haru came back and sat next to Makoto.
-Why are you crying?- he said with worried eyes.
-Noah knows.
-Well, she knows since a few hours...
Makoto facepalmed and I laughed.
-Let's go to my room- said Haru to Mako.
The green-eyed and me blushed immediately, I look to my side and then stood up to go to my room.
-Haru, we're fine like this- said Makoto.
-But I want to go to my room.
-Haru, we're talking here.
-Yeah, but she's tired from the trip, just look at her pale face.
-Do I look that bad?- I asked.
-You just look tired, I'm sure Rin didn't mind- said Makoto.
-Rin? Why would he mind?
-No-no reason... Well, suddenly I do want to go to your room Haru.
-See? You don't stop once you start talking- Haru said grabbing his hand and pulling him up.
-Go and have some fun you two- I said opening the door to the hallway.
-When are you going to "have fun" with Rin?- asked Haru.
-Wha-at?- I said, my eyes widening.
Mako put his hand on Haru's mouth to stop him from talking.
-Geez- he sighed.
