-Jolene-
"Alright then, but Spiderman can shoot webs out of his fingers!" Michael said. We were currently at a diner that Ashton had "found" a few months back, and the topic of conversation was superheros. Me and Luke were Batman fans, Michael was Spiderman, Calum was Captain America, and for an odd reason, Ashton chose Robin.
After breakfast with Luke this morning, we went back to the apartment and honestly, all we did was sleep, eat, and watch movies together. But really, during that whole time, I was thinking of how I was going to do this. How am I going to tell Luke about it all? Do I just come right out and say it? Do I give little bits and pieces? I didn't know. All I knew was that if anyone should know, it was him.
I felt someone bump my shoulder slightly, and I looked up to see all four boys staring at me. "Jo, were you listening?" Calum laughed. I realized I'd just zoned out for what was probably a close twenty minutes, picking at my food and thinking. I nodded my head no, and he gave me a sympathetic smile. The rest of the boys just have the basic understanding of this all, but Luke was truthfully the only person besides Carly, Tommy, James, and I who who knows - or is going to know - what happened that day. "We were saying, we were thinking about going to go see a movie, you in?"
"No, I'm good," I tell them. "Maybe next time." This time, it's my turn to give the small smile. I look back down at my burger and feel sick, just because of this whole situation. If I would have just stuck with these people from day one, I probably wouldn't have to think about telling Luke. I mean, obviously I would eventually. Just on my own terms; because I wanted to and had told him myself, not someone else. I just took a fry and stirred it around in the ketchup, not minding their still ongoing conversation about superheros.
"Are you okay?" Luke asked. He was sitting right next to me, and I felt his hand lap over mine that was palm down in between us. I looked down at it quickly, finding it almost cute how his hand was almost engulfing mine, then looked up to his blue eyes. I just shrug my shoulders and look back to my food when I hear him sigh. He moved his hand from mine, and grabbed around my waist, pulling me into his side. I closed my eyes slightly, the position I was in was highly comfortable. I could faintly see Michael smiling at us, Calum giggling and smiling while nodding in our direction, and Ashton giving a thumbs up and winking, I lifted my eyes to Luke, who's face was now a bright shade of red, his lips breaking into a smile, showing his dimple. I closed my eyes completely, leaning more into his side now. He smelt like cinnamon and vanilla, and I smiled, almost finding it sweet. A hand touched my forehead and pushed a few hairs behind my ear, and slowly but surely I fell asleep to Luke's soft hums, the soothing smell of his jacket, and warmth.

"Alright, you have to admit that The Notebook is probably one of the saddest romance movies you've ever seen." I say turning to Luke on my bed. We'd just got done watching that movie, and I was still feeling like I was almost about to break out in tears. "He literally spends basically all of his life trying to prove to her that he loves her, and when she realizes it, she forgets it all later. She didn't even recognize her own kids." I tell him, bringing a pillow in between my legs and resting my head on it. "The fact that he loves her that much is.." I trailed of, smiling to myself. I looked over at Luke.
He looked like he was deep in thought, looking at the blank screen before speaking. "What would you do if someone loved you like Noah loved Ally?" He asked ,still staring straight ahead. He shifted awkwardly in his seat, finally looking over at me. You could see it in his eyes, he was nervous.
I started back at him, our eyes not leaving each other. My face broke out in a smile. "Luke.. Do you love this mystery girl?" I ask him, and his face almost seems to drop at the thought of her. "Hey, it's okay. Look, do you want me to help you with her?" I ask and he shakes his head.
"I just.. I don't know. It's complicated Jolene." He looked down at his hands. I grabbed his closest hand to me and pulled him into me, giving him a hug. He arms found their way to my waist, and mine found their way around his neck. "I feel like giving up on it. I feel like no matter what I do, I won't be good enough for her. " he whispered to me and my heart felt for him.
"Luke.." I pulled hand and started into his eyes. "Luke, don't tell me you really think that? You know.. I don't understand how you could ever possibly feel like that Luke Robert Hemmings. You, are amazing. You're hot," I felt my cheeks war at this comment I'd just made. I didn't lie though, he was ridiculously attractive. "You have the biggest heart in a guy I've ever met, you're smart.. You make sure anyone and everyone is okay, no matter the situation. Luke, I've known you for almost two years and I can definitely say that you're the best friend that I've ever had." I said. "I'm lucky you're even at least my best friend."
"But.. she's different Jolene. I don't think she even has the slightest of a feeling for me in that way."
"Do you really think you love her?" He nodded, a slight, but beautiful chuckle quietly leaving his pink lips.
"I have since I first met her." The answer held a tone that I couldn't recognize.
"Then fight for her. Show her. Luke, love's a strong thing. If you think yo-"
"Jolene, I really do.. I just.. I think I should go." I give him a slight nod and a smile, understanding all of this was probably a bit hard for him. We both tried to get up at the same time, and I got caught up in the blanket and somehow managed to begin to fall. Luke grabbed my waist just in time, and it felt just a little bit uncomfortable at how we were touching. My hand accidently lapped his, and I looked up at him. His blue eyes were transfixed on my hand that layed across his and then finally looked up to my green ones. They looked even brighter than usual, a vibrant crystallized blue. "Be careful there, Adams. You don't wanna go falling." His whisper sent a second chill through my body. Once again, our eyes were locked onto each other. I had to have been imagining it, but it almost looked like he was shifting closer to me. I looked down at our feet, trying to balance myself if I was falling again.
His hands eventually left my waist. I cleared my throat as I watched him walk over to the door and begin to put his shoes on. I padded over to where he was and waited for him to finish, and when he stood up completely, I hugged him. "Just promise you won't give up? I want you to be happy." I tell him and he nodded. He pulled me in for a hug, just a normal thing for us when we leave each others houses. We stayed like that for around two minutes, till I heard my phone ringing.
Just as I was about to pull away, he turned his head and placed a small and quick kiss on my cheek, making my face turn red. As he turned to the door you could see him smiling and as he opened the door and stepped out, he turned in the process before saying, "I'm gonna do it. I'll fight for her, Jo." He nodded smiling to himself, before finally closing the door. I walked to it and stood on my tiptoes to look at the peephole. He was still there smiling to himself, and he said something - that I couldn't hear - and then began his decent down the hall.
I stood with my black leaning against the door, listening to my phone ringing, my hand finding its way to my cheek where the feeling of his lips lingered.
My only thoughts were,
'Fuck'.
