Chapter 4

~Chapter 4~

~Peeta POV~

I set the blanket and basket down and start running as hard as I can after Katniss. "Katniss slow down! Where are you going? Wait for me!" I shout as I continue to try to catch up to her.

She doesn't respond, she just keeps running along the tree line until she comes to a stop next to a tree and starts looking around for something. I see her emerge from around the tree clutching her bow with her bag of arrows slung over he shoulder.

"Katniss why did you take off running like that?! You scared me half to death! And we both know that I can't keep up with you anymore!" I say scolding her.

"I don't know! I just wanted to go get my bow and I got so excited I started to run! I'm sorry Peeta I didn't mean to scare you!" She replies with a sincere look of sorrow on her face.

I just laugh and take her hand and we begin walking back to the spot where u left our picnic basket.

Once I grab the blanket and basket, we start to head into the woods. "Alright Katniss, you know the woods better than me so lead the way!" I say to her.

"Okay Peeta! Let's go!" She replies excitedly.

~Katniss POV~

I take Peeta's hand and start to lead him to one of my favorite spots in the woods. As we walk, I keep my eyes and ears open for any squirrels or birds that I might be able to shoot and take to my friends in the hob. It turns out I don't see one form of wild life at all as I lead Peeta to our picnic spot. This is unusual that we haven't seen one animal, but then I start to notice how much noise we are making as we walk. Even though he can't help it, Peeta's fake leg makes a lot of noise when he walks and he makes even more noise when he walks on uneven surfaces. I lower my bow and give up on trying to fine game.

As we near my spot, I tell Peeta to close his eyes.

"Katniss this was supposed to be your surprise! Somehow this has turned into my surprise! Please tell me where we are going!" He pleads.

"Not a chance!" I reply

After a couple steps in silence he finally mutters, "fine," and we continue to walk.

The longer we walk the more curious Peeta gets.

"Can I open my eyes yet Katniss?!"

"No way!" I shout back.

"Are we there yet??" He sighs.

"Almost! Haha!" I laugh back.

After a few more steps I tell Peeta to open his eyes. Right when he open them I can see how pleased he is with my choice of our venue. I lead him to my favorite overlook that me and Gale used to sit at all the time and talk bad about the Capitol and small talk about...well...everything! I smile at the memory. Gale isn't really in my life anymore, so I decided to bring Peeta here so that we can make our own memories in these woods and on this overlook!

"Wow Katniss...this is beautiful! We can see for miles! How did you ever find this place?!" Peeta asks with excitement.

"Well my dad showed it to me when I was young and we would always come here and eat lunch while we were hunting and stuff! I've been coming here just to think and relax ever since!" I say. I make sure to leave out the part about this being me and Gale's spot. That might make this awkward for Peeta and I don't want this day to be anything but perfect!

"So shall we eat?" Asks Peeta as he begins to unfold the blanket and places it very gently on he ground.

"Yes please! I'm starving!" I say opening up he basket.

I dig around in the basket and begin to take out its contaminants. First, I take out a loaf of amazing, home cooked cinnamon bread. I break it in half and hand one end to Peeta. I take out the plates and silver wear and the rest of the food. Along with the cinnamon bread, Peeta packed us a bunch of grapes, apple slices and peanut butter, and also some chocolate pastries for desert! It all looks so delicious and we start devouring it! I'm so happy that Peeta is such a good cook because I'm the worst cook in all of Panem. And
that's not an exaggeration.

After we get done eating, me and Peeta just end up cuddling and watching the sun rise into the sky. We sit there for hours just admiring the view and each other's company. Finally I speak up and say, "Peeta, what do you think is out there?"

"Umm what do you mean Katniss? I'm sure that it's mostly just woods from here until you get to district thirteen..."

"No," I cut him off, " I don't mean just in Panem. I mean what's out there past the woods, past the oceans of district 4? Is Panem all that there is to this world? Are there other countries out there other than here?"

For the first time in forever, Peeta seems at a loss for words. Finally, after giving it some thought, he says, "Katniss, I don't know what's out there and most likely we will never know. But, what I do know is that right here and right now I'm sitting on this beautiful overlook in the middle of the most gorgeous woods that lie just outside the most wonderful district. I'm sitting here and cuddling with the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world. That is right now and right here, and I'm so thankful for this, for you, for us."

The whole time Peeta was talking, I was staring into his eyes. I began to tear up and a silent tear falls down my cheek. He wipes it off, gently holds my jaw and goes in for the kiss. This is the first time we have kissed since we have been home in district 12, and boy do I miss it! Shivers run up and down my whole body and my stomach turns to butterflies. After Peeta just poured his heart out to me, I could kiss him for forever. Finally, we break away from each other and he pulls me into a giant hug.

After a few more minutes of hugging and kissing, we decide to head on home since it's getting to be afternoon. We clean up our garbage and begin to walk back to 12 hand in hand.

Long chapter!!! Haha this took awhile to write and I had a bit of writers block but I really like how this story is turning out! I love writing about katniss and Peeta's relationship! It's so adorable! Anyways comment and vote! Thanks so much guys!(: love ya! ~Jordan~
