Chapter 22

~Chapter 22~

~Katniss POV~

After hours of lounging around the train and watching reruns of people interviewing with Cesar, we finally arrive at District 12. This time when we return home no one is waiting for us. There are no big crowds cheering and no one to greet us but I like it better this way. As we start to walk to the car thats waiting to take us back to the victors village, I take in a deep breath. The smell of the district is so familiar and comforting. Gosh I missed 12 so much.

Once we made it back to our house in the victors village and were all unpacked, I went down to the kitchen and found Peeta. "So Peeta, you said that you had a surprise when we got home...what is it?!" I say excitedly.

"Well Katniss...ummm...remember when you said you hated living in the victors village? Well I thought now since we are engaged, how about we build a new house somewhere? I mean, we have the money! So why not?" He says back with a grin on his face.

"Oh Peeta...I...that would be wonderful!" I say running and jumping into his arms. He picks me up and quickly sets me on the counter and kisses me. It's probably one of our more passionate kisses. Gosh I cannot wait to move now!

"Wait Peeta," I say breaking away from the kiss,"where are we going to build the new house?!"

"Anywhere you would like," Peeta says smiling.

"Oh my gosh! I think I know the perfect spot!!!" I exclaim.

"Well where is this 'perfect spot'?" Peeta asks sarcastically.

"Come on!" I say grabbing Peeta by the hand and practically dragging him to the door.

I guide him out of the victors village, through town and finally down a small dirt road which finally leads to the giant meadow surrounded by the woods. During the bombing of 12, the fence in this area was damaged so they took it down here but left the fence in other areas to keep animals out. It is one of my favorite spots in 12 and it would be a dream to live here.

"Can't you imagine it!" I squeal, "A house over there, a barn with animals right here and we can fence this in for the animals here! Peeta this is going to be amazing."

Peeta just shakes his head and pulls me into an embrace and kisses my forehead. I take his hand and we start to slowly walk back to the village. We pass by the hob and seam which are on the outskirts of town. We continue down the main road and eventually get to downtown. Now, instead of everything being gray and dull, people have begun to plant flowers and paint their shops. More places to buy clothes and food have opened and people have been making more money at work. Finally we pass by Peeta's family's old bakery that had been rebuilt. Thats when I get an idea in my head. Peeta won't be the only one with surprises in this relationship.

~Peeta POV~

We finally make it back to our house in the victors village and Katniss decides to go take a nap. I search through the phone book for agile until I find the realtors phone number. I decide to call it to see if they can help me find information on how to buy the property Katniss wants.

"Hello, this is Ally and I'm the realtor for district 12. What can I help you with today?" She says in a monotone voice.

"Um, hi this is Peeta Mellark. I was wondering if I could have your help with buying a property?" I ask.

"Oh hello Peeta! Yes of course! What property is this that you want?" She replies in a much happier tone.

"Well Katniss and I were very interested in that large piece of land on the other side of town. The one that has a dirt road leading to it from the seam. Do you know what I'm speaking of?"

"Yes, yes of course! Well I will get right on that and call you back when I get information on the price and everything! Thanks for calling Peeta! I will take to you later!"

"No thank you! And okay talk to you later!" I say and hang up the phone. I can tell that this is going to be a stressful next couple of months. I sigh and decide to go join in on Katniss' nap.
