Chapter 6

Nick & I had so much fun playing with the twins in the pool & then after that we had dinner, then made ice cream sundaes for dessert. I didn't think about the situation with Olivia all day. I didn't even think about it when I woke up the next morning. Nick was still sleeping & since I heard the twins talking to each other, I got out of bed to check on them.

Mercy & Jerry were sitting in the middle of the floor in Mercy's room & they were playing with baby dolls. It was the cutest thing, seeing Jerry hug his baby. He was going to be a great father one day. Mercy was feeding her baby, singing a song. "Tinkle tinkle wittle tar. Up a dove whirl so high..." Oh my God, my heart was melting in my chest. I walked in & they both smiled & ran to me. "Mommy!" They both squealed. "Goo mornin" Mercy said right before she gave me a kiss. I didn't think I could love anything more than these two precious angels in my arms. Well, I loved Nick just as much, but in a different way.

"Let's get your pull ups off & put some big kid underwear on, then go wake daddy." I said, taking their hands in mine. They were both in the process of potty training & Mercy was doing pretty well, but Jerry put up a fight about actually going on the potty. He would get it, eventually. I hoped, so he wouldn't end up wearing pull ups to kindergarten.

After the twins were changed, we all headed to my bedroom. Nick was still asleep & I held my finger up to my lips for the twins to be quiet. We tiptoed to the bed & I lifted them both up to sit them on the bed. Their faces, trying to be quiet while they wanted to laugh, were adorable. I let a giggle escape my lips, so I covered my mouth with my hand, as I sat down on the bed, too.

"How should we wake him?" I asked them, whispering.

"Tickle im." Jerry giggled.

"Go ahead." I motioned with my hands to them & Mercy started tickling Nick under the chin, making a noise with her mouth, that sounded like she was saying, 'tickle tickle tickle.' Jerry started tickling Nick's stomach & I laughed out loud, thankful that Nick had put boxers on before he fell asleep last night. I watched Nick's eyes flutter open & a huge smile take over his face.

"Who dares disturb my slumber?" Nick asked in a deep voice, mimicking a Disney character from one of the hundreds of movies the kids had watched. The twins both let out high pitched screams as Nick sat up & grabbed both of them in his arms, with ease. They all fell back on the bed, Mercy & Jerry both laughing in between screaming. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face if I wanted to. I watched Nick tickle the twins until they couldn't breathe, then watched both of them start smothering Nick's face with kisses as their small arms made their way around his neck. I wished we could stay in this spot, in this moment forever, but it would end. Eventually, we'd have to go back to the hospital. I tried not to think about it, as I laid down beside my family, which allowed Jerry to jump on me to give me kisses. Mercy wasn't too far behind & now it was Nick's turn to laugh as they attacked me with love. I caught Nick's eye & he stopped laughing to lay his head next to mine. The twins started tickling each other & Nick kissed my forehead. "We have the best life." He whispered, smiling at me.

"I could not agree more." I smiled back at him.

A few hours later, Denise & my mom came over to watch the twins while Nick & I went to the hospital. I tried to stay positive as we drove there. Nick knew I was apprehensive, so he sang in a goofy voice to the radio to make me laugh or, at the very least, smile. God, I loved him. I was having a day of gratitude. I was so grateful to God for bringing him into my life & I was grateful to Nick for forgiving me after I had a period of stupidity. I was holding onto this feeling of gratitude as I dealt with the rest of the day, watching my husband pretend to be into another woman. I was quiet, deep in thought as we drove & I listened to Nick's singing.
