Nick
Demi & I had a lot of fun with the kids while we toured with her. I didn't want to see it end, actually. But it did have to end. We had to get back to our lives. My brothers all were very cool about letting me take time off from our reunion to join Demi on tour. When I got back to L.A. we had a lot of work to do. All of us wanted to finish the album & release it in October, then do a tour in South America right before the holidays. We worked on a schedule & set up dates in various South American countries, starting in the beginning of November for about three weeks. That gave us the fire we needed to put under our asses to get the album finished on time. We were also getting a lot of great buzz about our reunion, which made all of us happy. After the new year, we were planning a U.S. tour.
Demi's tour ended on September 1 & we stayed in L.A. for a few weeks, so I could work with the band on the album & so Demi could do more press for her album. She was getting annoyed because of all the questions she was getting about Rafe. Rafe's career was pretty much over now that it came out that he almost broke up our marriage. He was vocal, online, in blaming me & Demi both, even though several other women came forward, telling similar stories.
The week before my birthday, Demi & I went back to Texas for a bit. We both missed it. The twins missed it, too, even though they enjoyed L.A. too. They were pretty content wherever we were, honestly. While we were in Texas, we were taking some time to relax before things got crazy again. My birthday was on a Thursday & Demi's mom was taking the kids for the day so Demi & I could be alone. We were having a celebration with friends & family back in L.A. that Saturday.
I was swimming in our pool, on my birthday, in the morning. Demi had left to take the twins to her mom's, then was coming home after she picked up some take out lunch. I swam to the edge of the pool & held onto the edge as I wiped the water from my eyes. I squinted at the sun, when I saw a female figure, standing there, watching me. At first I thought it was Demi, but then I realized it was Alex. I hadn't seen her in a while, not since before we left on Demi's tour. Right before we had gone on the tour, Demi got to meet Alex when we visited the park. Demi was nice to her & Alex did absolutely no flirting in front of Demi. I found it funny, but I let them do all the talking while I played with the kids.
"Your gate was open out front." Alex said, her hip cocked as her hand rested on it. She was wearing a bikini, if you could call it that. "I was laying out & thought I'd come see if you guys wanted to set up a play date for the kids, soon, since you're back."
I cleared my throat, leaning on the edge of the pool. "The kids aren't here today. They're at their grandma's."
Alex looked around. "Where's Demi?"
"She took them over to her mom's."
"So it'll just be you two today?"
"Yep. Just me & my wife, hanging out for my birthday."
"It's your birthday, that's right. I should have remembered since it was in all the magazines that I collected back in the day." Alex chuckled, tossing her hair. "Happy Birthday, Nicholas." The way she said Nicholas was somewhat disturbing. "Mind if I join you?" Before I could answer, Alex dived in. I turned around & sat on the top step, leaning one arm on the cement side of the pool. Alex swam up to me, standing by my knees, leaning both of her elbows on the wall behind her. I tried to avert my eyes when she stuck her chest out.
I was in so much trouble if Demi came home right now. "I should probably get out & get dressed. Demi & I have a whole day planned for my birthday."
"You don't like me, do you?" Alex said, staring fiercely at me.
I laughed, nervously. "Sure, I like you."
