Demi

I couldn't believe my sweet, loving, little girl was so adamant about not having a baby sister. It worried me a little, actually. I leaned forward, a little, to look at Mercy with a soft smile on my face. "What if Daddy wants another little girl because his first little girl was so incredible, he wants two incredible little girls?" I could tell by the expression on her face, she wasn't buying what I was selling.

Mercy sighed, making me giggle. She was so cute, I couldn't take it sometimes. Mercy looked up at Nick with her puppy dog eyes & I could tell his heart was melting by the look on his face. "You wanna anudder wittle girl, Daddy?"

Nick hugged Mercy to his chest. "I want a healthy baby. I don't care if it's a boy or a girl. I will love it no matter what, just like I love you no matter what." Nick was grinning when his eyes met mine. "I just hope there's only one this time. It's bad enough we'll be outnumbered."

I laughed at him & Mercy smiled. "But twins are da bestest!" She yelled.

"Yay!" Jerry responded, just as loud. "Twins again."

Nick shook his head. "Oh no. No more twins."

Later, we were all headed over to Nick's parents' house, when Nick grabbed my hand in the car. "We going to tell the family today?"

"We can." I smiled at him as he brought my hand to his mouth to kiss my fingers, lovingly.

When we told Nick's family that we were expecting again, I noticed Blanda looked a little unemotional. Once the commotion settled down, I went to find her. She was in the kitchen, pouring herself a glass of wine. "Hey, girl. You okay?" I asked her.

Blanda turned around & nodded before taking a sip from her glass. "Yea. Congratulations, Dem. I'm so happy for you guys."

"Thanks. Now I'll ask again. Are you okay?" I took a few steps toward her, smiling, warmly at her.

Blanda stared at me, her chin starting to quiver & her eyes shining with tears. She blinked several times looking away. "Joe & I have been trying to have another baby for a while now." Her hand came up to wipe at her tears. "My doctor says my uterus may have been more damaged from the accident than he knew, so he wants to run some tests."

"Oh, B. I'm so sorry." I put my arm around her shoulder. "Are you going to have the tests done soon?"

"I'm not going to. Not right now, anyway. I need to think about it for a while."

"I know. It's scary. Take some time with it, but don't give up on having another baby."

Blanda smiled, looking down at me. "Maybe we'll adopt a little girl from China."

I chuckled. "She would be one lucky little girl." I gave Blanda's shoulders a squeeze. "It's a little ironic. When you were pregnant, I was upset because I might not be able to get pregnant & now we've reversed roles." My voice got quiet, feeling sorry for Blanda & Joe. I knew exactly how they felt.

My family was ecstatic for me & Nick, too. Everyone gushed to the twins, trying to get them excited about being a big brother & sister. Mercy was very vocal in her wishes that the new baby be a boy. We had warned everyone beforehand, so they weren't asking her any questions. We didn't want anyone to encourage her. In fact, Maddie, Dallas & I were sure to be extra vocal about our love of having sisters. I hoped it would register enough in Mercy over the next eight months. I wasn't due until the beginning of February, so we had a little time.

Nothing happened again with Rafe or Brooklyn. I had heard that Rafe went to New Mexico to live with his sister, but I really didn't care either way. Nick breathed easier after several weeks of not hearing anything else. We were able to settle back into our lives, thankfully.

I was leaving for a South American tour on June 30 & was going to be gone for about four, almost five weeks. Nick & the kids were coming with me, mostly because Nick was insistent after our three week separation back in November. He didn't want our family to be split up for that long, ever again.

The day before we were leaving for South America, I had a doctor's appointment & Nick wasn't able to come. He had his own doctor appointment scheduled at the same time. So I thought I'd have a little fun with him since he wasn't there with me.

Nick was cleaning up the kids lunch mess when I got home. I saw, out the window, the twins were playing in the yard with Frankie & Maddie. Nick smiled when he saw me. "Hey, Love. How'd your appointment go?" He asked. I kept my expression flat as I stared at him. Nick's eyes widened as he looked fearful. I didn't want to scare him. He put the washcloth on the counter & rushed over to me. "Baby? What's wrong?" His voice was frantic & it was hard, not laughing. I bit my lip to keep from smiling. Nick bent down so our faces were at the same level, his hands on my arms, gently shaking me. "Demi? Talk to me."

"I'm fine." I whispered. Nick breathed a sigh of relief. "You might want to sit down." I said, quietly.

"Um, why?" Nick stood upright.

"Trust me."

Nick kept his eyes on me as he leaned on the counter. "This is fine. I don't need to sit. What do you need to tell me?"

"It's not twins." I said, shrugging my shoulders & smiling, carefully, with my eyebrows up. "It's triplets."

The expression on Nick's face was priceless. His jaw, literally, dropped & I thought his eyes might bug out of his head. He stared at me, not blinking, for a few minutes, before he finally shook his head & started laughing, hysterically. "What is wrong with your body?" He asked, looking at the floor.

I smacked his arm. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

His laughter subsided a little as he looked up at me. "First twins, now there are three? Seriously, baby, what is wrong with your eggs?"

"Nothing." I scowled at him, crossing my arms. I was going to have to make him sweat a little. "There may even be a fourth baby. The doctor saw something, but it was hidden. He said he could get a better picture next time." I smirked at him. "When they're bigger."

Nick shook his head, a smirk on his face. "Don't fucking joke about that." His eyes were serious.

I started laughing. "Wow. Fear brings out the bad ass Nick, using the F word & everything."

Nick took a deep breath & looked at the ceiling. "Oh my God, Demi. We can't have four babies. We barely survived two at a time."

I put my hands on his waist & laughed even harder. "Gotcha."

Nick's confused expression was on his face now. "What?" He breathed out.

"There's only one baby in here. I was messing with you." I circled my arms around his waist.

He laughed, out of sheer relief. "You're pure evil." He pulled me to him & squeezed me, a little tighter than normal. "I was about to freak out." He murmured in my ear.

I kissed him, softly. "Sorry. I had to." I lifted my eyebrows, quickly. I started to walk away from him, but Nick grabbed my hand & pulled me back to him. His hand went on my neck, bringing my face close to his. His other hand, that held my hand went behind my back.

"You're lucky you're cute. And I will make you pay later.... when you're naked." He mumbled before he slammed his lips into mine, taking my breath away. "Did the doctor say it was okay for you to travel?" He asked when he pulled his mouth from mine.

"Yes, worry wart. We'll have a nurse on the tour with us anyway for me & for Mercy."

"What does Mercy need a nurse for?" Nick asked.

"In case you are on stage with me or just because." I shrugged my shoulders.

"She doesn't need a nurse if I'm around." Nick rolled his eyes.

"You're amazing with her, yes, but the nurse will be there for me, anyway, so just shush." I kissed him again, then pulled him to go outside to play with the kids for a while. The twins wouldn't get a whole lot of outdoor fun with Nick & I, while we were in South America, unless we were surrounded by a ton of security. I was even reluctant to let the twins go out with someone else, because I knew they'd be recognized. This tour, with two toddlers, was definitely going to be an adventure.
