I was so excited about my date with Jerry. He was so adorable when I told him we were going on a date. He jumped up & down, yelling.. "YAY!" Then he looked over at Nick & shocked the hell out of me. "Daddy, will you be mad if I go on a date with Mommy?" Nick & I both laughed.

"No, buddy. I'm not gonna be mad. Only you & me are allowed to go on a date with Mommy. Nobody else." Nick said in a serious voice.

"That's right. Nobody else." Jerry said, smiling, shaking his head.

"So where should we go on our date?" I asked.

Jerry's face got serious as he looked at the ceiling. Suddenly, his face lit up. "Can we go to baseball game?" He asked in an excited cry.

Nick's face lit up with pride, then he stuck his lip out. "Aww, buddy, there isn't a game this Saturday, but you know what?" Nick pulled Jerry onto his lap. "We will all go to a game the next time there is one. How's that sound?"

"Okay. Then can we go to Legoland?" Jerry asked, his eyes widening.

"Yea, we can go to Legoland. Mercy, where do you want Daddy to take you?" I asked, looking at Mercy who was brushing her babydoll's hair.

Mercy looked up, curiously. We hadn't told her that she was going with Nick, yet, so now she looked interested. Her eyes slowly got wider & her mouth hung open. "I get to go on a date with Daddy?" She asked.

Nick put Jerry down & he ran over to his pile of Legos. "Yes, Miss Mercy. Would you like to go on a date with me this Saturday?" Nick asked Mercy as he leaned on his legs to look down at her.

Mercy grinned, pulling her shoulder up. "Can we go to American Girl?" She asked, sounding hopeful.

Nick looked up at me, a little confusion on his face. We hadn't taken Mercy to the American Girl place, yet. She just started getting into the dolls because Isabella, her cousin was. "It's the dolls Bella has that she's always carrying around with her. And she's always reading the books." I explained to Nick. Isabella just turned nine & was a bookworm. She was always reading & carried the dolls around with her, too. I was pretty sure she had them all since she spent the first five years of her life at the American Girl place in New York.

"Of course, Baby girl." Nick answered her & her face lit up like it always did when Nick gave her what she wanted. Even if it was just a kiss or a hug she was asking for, if it came from Nick it was the best thing ever. My heart melted as I watched Mercy throw her arms around Nick's neck. God, this sight never got old. I could feel my heart breaking, then, as Delaney crossed my mind. I had to swallow a few times to keep the lump in my throat from growing. I didn't want to think about the fact that she'd never do that or that she never felt our arms around her. I wanted to bawl, thinking that she may not have felt love before she died. I had to turn away & go to the kitchen.

I was rubbing the tears from my eyes when Nick came in. I had my back to him, but he came up behind me & slipped his arms around my belly & rested his chin on my shoulder. "You were thinking about Delaney weren't you?" He asked in a whisper. I couldn't answer him because I was fighting a sob fest, so I just nodded. His lips kissed my cheek. "She knew how much we loved her. She felt it, in her short life, whenever we sang to her or talked to her. I know she could feel our love, so please don't be sad. She's our guardian angel now & she'll make sure the new baby is okay."

I held in a few sobs, loving the fact that, Nick knew me so well, that I didn't need to say anything to him. He just held me for a few minutes, while I had a moment of grief. Finally, I let out a cleansing breath. "You're going to have so much fun at American Girl, I'm kind of jealous."
