"Y/N, you wanna know how to be the bestest big sister eeeeeeeeever?" My 7 year old brother Jacob walks up to me as I scroll through my Instagram feed. "Want do you want Jakey?" I ask without even looking at my brother. "Will you go to the courts with me and help me practice my free-throws? Tryouts are in two days!" He caught my attention. It was about time I start practicing for basketball season as well. "Alright let me get my shoes then we'll go." Jake runs out of the room going to get his ball while I slip on a pair of nikes and grab my phone. "Ready?" I ask my little brother as we meet in the hallway. "Yup. Let's go!" He pulls me downstairs and outside, towards the direction of the park.
Jake and I walk the short few blocks to the park, Jake bouncing his basketball the whole time. We turn the corner and Jake sprints to one of the open courts as soon as he sees them. "Alright, what do you want to work on first?" I ask as I walk onto the court and throw my sweatshirt to the side of the court. "I really wanna—" Jakes voice fades out as he glares at something in the distance. "What? What is it?" I ask looking around for whatever has distracted my little brother so easily. "Isn't that Ethan?" I turn my head, and my heart drops to the pit of my stomach. Ethan Dolan, my ex boyfriend, stands by the slides. He looks at me with an almost frightened look and then gives me a slight smile once he sees me looking back.
Jake drops the ball and starts running. "Ethan!" He runs towards the slides and straight into Ethan's arms. "Hey buddy. Hey Y/N." Ethan's eyes stare into mine, and then move down my body as he carries jake in his arms. "Do you want to play with us?" Jake asks Ethan with an excited tone. Ethan and I stop staring at each other and focus on my little brother. "Um actually Jake I think—" "please Ethan! You can be on Y/N's team! Please!!!" Ethan and I look at each other again. I shrug my shoulder and Ethan puts Jake down. "Okay one game." Ethan says to Jake. A huge smile forms on jakes face as he runs into the middle of the court and excepts Ethan and I to follow. "Y/N, Princess, can we please talk—" "no Ethan what's done is done. Which means we're done." I say as I walk towards the court where Jake is patiently waiting. "Alright, play to 25?"

"Good job jakey! You're getting good." I wink at jake while messing up his hair, and then running to the side to get a drink of water. I watch Ethan talk to Jake, both of them with big smiles on his face. It was hard for me to not completely gush over Ethan the last hour. I loved watching him spend time with Jake, in fact, it always made me fall for him a little more each time. But The relationship between Ethan and I was gone, and never to be rekindled as far as I was concerned. He had just hurt me too much. But I won't put all the blame on Ethan. I started as many of the fights that ended our relationship as he did. And I was the one to call it off. But I wasn't the one who told my girlfriend that I had too much homework to go out but actually went to see a movie with Kaylee Daniels. The relationship would have never worked out, so it was best to just call it quits then.
"Y/N? Can we play one more game?" Jake asks dribbling his ball. "We better not Jake. We've gotta get home before it's dark." I say checking the time in my phone. Jake let's out a low grunt but quickly jogs over to get his sweater. "Here, I'll walk you guys home." Ethan says standing a little too close to me. "We're fine Ethan." I say with a fake smile. "No please it's the least I can do. After all, you guys kept me entertained all evening." He days gesturing back to the basketball court. "Well, if you're sure you don't have too much homework." I give him a sarcastic smile and start walking down the sidewalk. Ethan quickly catches up to me, while Jake stays a few feet behind, practicing his dribbling. "Hey, don't be like that. Please, I'm trying to fix things. With us." He looks into my eyes and moves in closer to my face. "It's going to take a lot more then just walking us home to fix our relationship, Ethan. A lot more."
I start making my way down the sidewalk again, Ethan still walking right next to me. I look out into the road trying to make anything more interesting then the extremely attractive boy standing right next to me. Suddenly, I feel a hand lace it's fingers with mine and hold it softly. "What're you doing?" I ask Ethan with a skeptical look. "I missed you. I missed holding your hand while walking you home, and I miss standing on you're doorstep trying to talk as long as we could before your dad would come out and tell me to leave, only for me to sneak through your window twenty minutes later." He looks down with a sad smile, as I try to hide the tears that are forming in my eyes. "And I know you miss that too. I know you still love me as much as I still love you." He looks up at me and I notice his eyes ready as-well. I roll my eyes at his assumption. " don't be so full of yourself. Why would you think that?" "Because." He has a cocky smirk on his face. "You've let me hold your hand this whole time." He holds our hands up, showing them still interlocked. I roll my eyes and rip my hand away, not letting Ethan have the satisfaction he wanted. He lets out a roaring laugh as I cross my arms and make my way to my house.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Jake, go inside I'll be in in a minute." I say to my little brother as we approach the steps to our house. He runs ahead and goes in the door, probably running to eat some type of junk food. Ethan and I stand on the doorstep, awkwardly standing across from each other. The door opens again and I see Jake peeking his head through the door. "Just do you know, I think you guys should get back together." He quickly closes the door again and Ethan and I are left with the awkward silence we had come quite familiar to. "Ya know he's right abou—"Ethan stop. We aren't getting back together. Yes, I still have feeling for you but we both made mistakes and I think it's better we learn from those mistakes then remake them." Ethan looks anywhere but my eyes and bounces his leg, a nervous habit of his.
"I love you Y/N. And nothing or nobody is going to stop me from getting you back. You're worth it. Our relationship is worth it. And I know you know it." Ethan takes both my hands in his and looks at me waiting for me to look back at him. I just stare down at the ground, biting my lips. "Say something, please." I look up at him and he searches my face for some kind of signal. "I love you too." Ethan smiles and let's out a relieved sigh. Without any warning, he leans in, moving his hands from mine to my cheeks. Ethan kisses me for the first time in months, making me go weak in the knees. He pulls away kissing my cheek gently and hugging me tight. A soft giggle comes from behind us. When we turn our heads, we both see Jake standing from inside the house, peaking through the Curtain. "I'll see you soon lovely." Ethan whispers against my forehead and then walks down the steps of my house. I wave bye to him one more time and watch him leave. "Does this mean Ethan's going to start coming over again?" I hear jake say as the door opens behind me. "We'll see buddy." I say waking him back inside. "I sure hope so. Cause you're not as good as making car noises."
