Alison DiLaurentis Tried to Kill Me
At seven, Emily came home. Shay had just finished cooking the spinach lasagna for dinner, so it was perfect timing.
"Ooh," Emily said, sniffing the air. "I love it when you cook lasagna."
"I only made a half pan this time, since Isaac isn't here," Shay told her. Isaac was spending the night at his parents' house.
Emily nodded. "That's good. I don't think we'd be able to finish the whole pan."
Shay laid down the plates, forks, and knives. She brought the lasagna pan over to the table.
Emily sat down. "There's been something I've been meaning to ask you."
"What is it?" Shay asked, passing a plate to Emily.
"Well, I've noticed you aren't really hanging out with Grace, Delia, and Charlotte anymore. And, I was just wondering... are you friends with Sasha?"
"Well yeah," Shay started. "What's wrong with that?
Emily blinked. "Nothing. Just stirs up lots of bad memories."
Shay sat down. "What kind of bad memories?"
Emily sighed. "Well, I know that you know I was stalked by a psycho called A."
"Yeah, of course," Shay said.
"Well, the first A, Mona isn't in prison."
"She... escaped?" Shay asked. Maybe Mona was their A, too.
"Well, she didn't ever go to prison," Emily answered. "Spencer murdered her the night she revealed she was A."
"Wait, Spencer Hastings is a murderer?" Shay asked, her words slowly sinking in.
"No, it was self defense," Emily answered. "Mona tried to push Spencer down Floating Man Quarry."
"Oh," Shay said quietly. Floating Man Quarry had been closed ever since she was born. Now she knew why. So much for the Mona-is-A theory. "So then, who killed Ian, Graham, and Kyla?"
"It was Nick and Ali," Emily said, shaking her head.
A sour taste welled up in Shay's mouth. "You mean, Sasha's mom Alison?"
"No," Shay said. "It was her crazy twin Courtney. She was posing as Alison."
"Wait, but then who did they find the night you thought Ali died?"
Emily shook her head. "We don't know. The police say it was an exact copy of Alison's DNA, but there was really no way to tell for sure. Her body was too rotted."
Shay thought about that for a minute. "So, did Courtney kill this person."
"We think so," Emily replied. "But we don't have any solid evidence to prove it."
Shay felt dizzy. She took a bite of lasagna. It tasted like sawdust. Emily's A was capable of anything, and maybe hers was too.
