Hanna Spills the Beans
At eight, Ashley walked downstairs for breakfast. Hanna was already there, drinking a cup of tea.
"So, I've been meaning to talk to you about Thursday night," Hanna said, as Ashley stepped into the kitchen.
"What is there to talk about?" Ashley replied, grabbing her slip on blue wedges.
"What do you mean what is there to talk about?" Hanna asked, setting her cup of tea. "Ashley, you could have been killed."
"Yeah, mom, I know," Ashley groaned. "People break into houses all the time. They didn't even take anything."
Hanna sat their for a minute, studying her daughter's face expression. "Have you been getting weird text messages?" she asked, slowly.
Ashley squinted. "What kinds of weird text messages?" Her mom had to be talking about A.
"Um, just like, threatening notes about your secrets?"
"What? No!" Ashley fake laughed. "Mom, just because it happened to you, doesn't mean it's happening to me."
Hanna sighed. "I know. I guess I'm just being paranoid. A tried to kill us. Twice."
"Really?" Ashley asked. "I thought A was Mona Vanderwaal, and she was sent to rehab and then to prison for the rest of her life."
Ashley sighed. "That's what we wanted all of you to believe. But, the truth is, Mona's dead."
Ashley gasped. "Dead?"
Hanna nodded. "She slipped off a cliff the night she revealed her true identity."
"Wait, I thought she killed, like three people," Ashley said.
Hanna shook her head. "That was Nick. And Courtney."
"Who's Courtney?" Ashley asked.
"Ali's twin sister," Ashley answered. "She killed three people, Ian, Graham, and Kyla."
"That sounds awful," Ashley said. "I'm so sorry, mom. I really am."
