What The Future May Hold

Lucy frantically texted Troian. Where are you?

Still driving, Troian typed back in response.

You still can't find her? Lucy asked

Still looking, she texted.

Lucy sighed, and turned to Sasha. "Troian still can't find Ashley."

"I wonder what could have happened to her," Sasha said, nervously.

"Maybe she got lost or something and went into Philly," Lucy suggested.

Sasha shook her head, making her blonde curls bounce. "No, I don't think so. She seemed to know Rosewood in and out, all the back roads and everything. It was how she scored her Tory Burch bag at the mall on Black Friday."

A female nurse entered the waiting room, and turned to Lucy and Sasha.

"Can we see Shay?" Sasha asked.

She shook her head, and consulted to her clipboard. "She woke up. The doctor said it was best for her to rest. You may see her when she wakes up."

"How long will she have to stay in the hospital?" Lucy asked the woman.

"We will have her stay overnight, and see how she's doing. We can't tell for sure right now."

"Okay," said Lucy.

The nurse left, and handed her clipboard to the lady at the front desk.

Lucy shifted her butt in the uncomfortable chair. At least Shay had woken up. That was a good sign. She got up, and went to the table at the back, by the fake potted plant. On it, was a stack of white, styrofoam cups, a pot of coffee, and a water dispenser. She poured herself a cup of cold water, and took a long sip. She went back, and sat in her chair next to Sasha. She pulled out her cell to text Ashley.

Where are you, she asked. Of course, there was no reply. What if she had a hit and run while stopping at a Wawa? What if at a red light, someone smashed her head with a baseball bat? Lucy tried not to think about it, but it was hard. It seemed like Sasha had a ring of negative energy around her. Ever since they met her, bad things had started to happen. First, A texted them about their secrets. Then, there was that break-in. Now A was affecting their living status, and wether they would be part of the deceased. Ashley must have done something bad. And fifteen was much too young to die. "Trouble" by Taylor Swift ended, and "Die Young" by Ke$ha came on. Of course it did. Lucy always thought of herself as kind of physic. She predicted the future, and it was always right in such an odd way, not one anyone would expect. Like, if the geometry teacher was handing out tests, and she predicted she got an A, she would get a C on this one and ace the next test. Life didn't make sense like that.

Ping! There was another message from Troian. Lucy gulped as she read the text.

I've looked everywhere, and I still can't find her. Should I keep looking, or drive back to the hospital?

"Sasha," Lucy said, lightly tapping her on the shoulder.

"What?" Sasha asked, turning to face Lucy.

"Troian just texted me that she still can't find Sasha. Should she look some more, maybe drive into Philly, or just come back to the hospital."

"I think she should keep looking," Sasha said, thoughtfully. "It's not like we're doing anything important."

"Good point," Lucy admitted, and texted Troian to go and check out Philly and Bryn Mawr.

"Hey," Sasha said. "I'm going to stop at the Starbucks down the street. Want anything?"

"Get me an iced latte," Lucy said. It was what she always ordered.

"Okay," Sasha said, and left to go buy their drinks.

Now, Lucy was all alone in the boring, depressing waiting room. She reached for the coffee table, and picked up a random magazine, a copy of "Lady's Home Journal". She looked at the date from when the magazine was printed and published. It was the latest issue. Without having anything better to do, she flipped through it. But after a few minutes, her boredom level went from unbearable to extremity. She put the magazine down, and went over to the table in the back to get another glass of water. Then, she sat back down, and watched as time slowly went by.
