Just Another Typical Day For Shay Fields

Shay touched the edge of the pool, and then let out a breath. She had officially met her summer goal; which was to swim 50 laps without stopping. She planned to get a swimming scholarship when she was older, since her parents; Emily and Isaac, weren't the richest people in the world.

Shay got out of the pool, and wrapped herself up in a towel. She didn't like being an only child. She often wished for a sibling, usually an older sister. Emily was lucky. She had three siblings, which could get annoying, but it was probably better than being an only child.

Shay opened her swim locker and grabbed her gear bag, cell phone, and Gatorade. She walked toward the parking lot to wait for Emily. She waited for about ten minutes, then texted Emily to see where she was. Emily worked during the day as a swimming coach at Hollis. Isaac worked in the afternoons as an engineer, and he had band practice in the evening. Emily didn't text back, so Shay slipped her phone back into her bag.

Then, a few minutes later, a Red Station Wagon pulled up. It was Isaac's car...but shouldn't he be at work? It was only 4:30. Shrugging, Shay climbed into the front seat. "Where's Emily?" Shay asked.

"She had a conference meeting," Isaac answered. "It ran late, so she told me to pick you up instead."

"Oh." Shay said. "Thanks for picking me up."

"No problem," Isaac said, making a left onto Greene Road. "There was nothing important going on at work today, anyway."

Shay's phone buzzed, and she looked down at the screen. The phone vibrated in her hand. "One new text message." She clicked on the mail icon, and it went directly to her email. There was a new email from someone called gfrij578)fdgkot/467?@gmail.com. She opened it.

Hey Shay, here's a tip. The only way to be safe from me is to not have any secrets at all.

Shay glanced down, confused.

"Are you okay?" Isaac asked, laying a masculine hand on her shoulder.

Shay nodded, glancing out the window. No one seemed suspicious. Then, they turned left by Ferra's Cheesesteaks. There was an old lady walking her two dogs outside Ferra's. There was a young man talking to someone on his cellphone. There was a couple, Danielle and Ryan, holding hands. And then there was Kristen Gregory. There was a rumor swirling around school that she slept with her ultra hot cousin. She held a smartphone in her right hand, and her left hand was curled into a fist so tight, Shay was surprised her nails hadn't gone right through her hand. She stared at Shay, with a pair of unblinking eyes, a diabolic sneer on her lips. Shay quickly turned away. When she turned back, Kristen was oh-so-casually walking down the street, as if nothing had happened moments before. Shay shuddered, and faced front again. She didn't think about that day for a long time. But maybe she shouldn't have been so quick to forget about it, and just drop it. Some people aren't what you think. And after a couple years, a certain five girls will know that all too well. After all, I'm capable of almost anything. I am the new A.
