Scared to Death

The next day, Ashley and Sasha walked into Rosewood High together. The other girls were ignoring them, only talking to each other.

Sasha and Ashley walked up to Dan Kolberg, the guy they'd recruited to scare the girls in the woods. "Thanks for scaring them," Sasha said.

"Didn't you get my text?" Dan asked, raising an eyebrow.

"What text?" Sasha snapped.

"Last night I sent you a text," Dan told her. "I couldn't do it after all, my parents made me go to my sister, Mariah's school play."

"Wait, what?!" Sasha asked. "That wasn't you?"

Dan shook his head.

Ashley stood their silently, slowly processing the information.

"Wait," she said slowly, her voice coming out like a tiny squeak. "So, if that wasn't you out there, then... who was it?"

Dan shrugged. "I have no idea."

Sasha quickly walked away from them. "Come on, Ashley. Let's go."

Ashley had no choice but to follow. "Wait, so who was that in the woods?" she asked.

"Oh, it was Dan all right," Sasha said angrily. "He's just trying to make it sound like it's not so he scares us. No one else knew about this."

Ashley cocked her head to the side. Dan genuinely sounded like he didn't know who was in the woods last night.

Ashley was still puzzling over it when she went to her locker. She was in such a daze, that it took her three times to get her combination right. Her first class was English, both Sasha and Dan were in it. Since they had assigned seats in English, Ashley had to sit by Dorky Delia and Geeky Gwen. Sasha and Dan sat together. She saw them whispering, surely having a heated argument. "Sasha, Dan," the teacher interrupted.

After that, Sasha and Dan stopped whispering, but they continued their argument on a sheet of notebook paper.

When the bell rang, Ashley maneuvered around the desks to over where Sasha was. "Are you sure it was Dan?"

"Dan is an ass," she replied, not directly answering the question.

"Wait, so that was Dan?" Ashley asked again.

Sasha shrugged, and walked out of the room. Ashley walked out, and noticed a blank piece of paper stuck to the bottom of one of her blue wedges. She picked it up and flipped it over. Ashley gasped. The message read "You're dead, bitch".
