Chapter Seventeen
I woke up to the sound of barking. I went downstairs and seen Midnight going crazy in his cage. He seen me and sat down but was looking at the door. I opened it and Jakari was standing there. She hadn't even been in jail for half a year and she was standing on my doorstep.
She let herself in and shut the door behind her. She pulled me into a hug. I couldn't move. Anger and shock was coursing through my body so fast.
"How are you out?" I asked. She looked at me and took my hand.
"Dom dropped the charges. Made up a story to get me let out. That was months ago. I wanted to show you something. You might wanna sit down though." She said. Of course.
I sat down and she sat next to me. Not too close thankfully. She took her phone out and handed it to me. I looked at the screen and the name said Adonis. She had been texting Adonis.
"I love you still Ari. I knew you and her were talking so I got her number and started talking to her. Trying to see if she's good enough for you. I was flirting with her expecting her to flirt back but she didn't." She explained.
"Then why are you telling me?" I asked.
"She told me she was in a relationship. Just not with you." She replied. I looked at her like she was crazy. But as I continued scrolling through their texts, I seen that Jakari was telling the truth. Adonis told Jakari that she was in a relationship with Syd, TK's twin, and she doesn't even know an Ariana.
I checked the number to make sure it was actually Adonis and it was. They were just texting the day before too. When I was with her.. I handed Jakari her phone back after taking screenshots and sending them to myself. I sat back and put my feet up on the table.
"I'm about to start dating niggas." I said.
"You lying. Niggas aren't any better first of all. Second of all I should explain that whole situation. Why I shot Dom.. The past. One of TK's bitch ass friends threatened to kill my mom if I didn't shoot Dom. I was basically their puppet. I shot her in a place that wouldn't kill her on purpose. I never wanted to do the shit I did. All the girls I was with were set ups. TK hated me enough to do anything to keep me away from you. I have proof if you want it."
I could hear it in her voice that she wanted to cry. I was still on the fence though.
"I most definitely want proof." I said. She got on her phone and showed me. All the threatening conversations, phone calls from TK and TK's friend, pictures of her mom's house, and more.
"That was going on since I met you. Everything was set up. Except the night with Vee. That was a moment of weakness. She was being paid by TK to seduce me though. I swear to you Ariana every day I'm not with you breaks me a little bit more. I don't want to see you get hurt again so I had to come and tell you that Adonis is no good. I'm not even here to try and get you back. I just want you to know all this." She got up and left without another word.

I was in the middle of rolling a blunt and chilling with Midnight when my phone started ringing. Adonis.
"What's good?" I answered.
"Uh what you doing?" She asked. Probably confused about why I hadn't texted her all day.
"I'm about to smoke. Why?" I asked.
"I'm off tonight. Can I come over or are you too busy?" She asked.
"I'm too busy." I hung up and finished rolling. I lit it and faced that shit. I grabbed my keys and left my house. I drove to her house and parked in the driveway behind someone else's car.
I knocked on the door and Red's brother answered.
"Hi Ariana." He said.
"Wassup. Where yo sister?" I asked.
"She in her room. Come in." I walked in and went upstairs. Her bedroom door was wide open. I walked in and caught her laying in bed with Syd. She looked at me confusedly.
"You been texting Jakari?" I asked.
"You know her?" She asked, sitting up.
"You can say that. How long y'all been together?" I asked, gesturing at her and Syd.
"Few months." Syd answered before Red could stop her. I looked at Red and nodded before I walked out. I went out to my car and turned on Gucci Mane before I made my way home.
But I stopped halfway at a McDonald's and called Jakari.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Where you staying?" I asked.
"In my car right now." She replied.
"The fuck? Come over." I said.
"You sure?" She asked as I got back on the road.
"Come over." I hung up and got home within 15 minutes. I went in and put food and water in Midnight's bowls. I let him outside and got a frozen bag of popcorn chicken out the freezer. I put some in the microwave and went to get the door when I heard knocking.
I let Jakari in and we went to the kitchen.
"You hungry?" I asked. I was starving since my high was starting to wear off.
"Very." She replied. I got another plate and put half the chicken on it. I got a bag of chips from the cabinet and opened it, pouring some on both plates. I grabbed two bottles of mountain dew out of the fridge and handed one to her.
We ate in silence. TK ruined my life. In all honestly. I could have been happy and married right now and she fucked everything up.
"I missed you." Jakari stated after finishing her food.
"I forgive you." I said. "Come on." I put our plates in the sink and took her upstairs.
"Where you been taking showers and shit?" I asked.
"The gym. This lady there knows my situation and lets me in before they open so I can shower. Not everyday though." She explained. I grabbed a robe from my closet and handed it to her.
"Feel free to use my bodywash and shampoo and all that." I said. She broke down crying. "What's wrong?!"
"I just hated having to put you through all that shit and you actually thought that I was really like that. I love you way too much for any of that-"
"I know none of that was you now. I get it Kari." I said, hugging her.
"That's why I'm crying. I didn't think I'd ever have the chance to tell you. I'm just overwhelmed right now." She said, wiping her tears.

Jakari got out of the shower and walked into my room wearing my robe. Her hair was down and damp and her dirty clothes were in her hands.
"Put them in the hamper." I said, pointing at the hamper in the corner. I turned the volume on my TV down and moved the blanket over so Kari could get in the bed next to me. She sat down and rubbed her eyes.
"You good?" I asked.
"Yeah. You just don't get how grateful I am." She replied. I put my arm around her and pulled her closer. I leaned in and kissed her forehead, then her lips.
I finally felt good again. For real this time. She never hurt me on purpose. It was against her will each time. I embraced her and kissed her more deeply. She wrapped her arms around my neck and sucked on my bottom lip. I missed her more than I thought I could.
