It was around six in the morning, the sun was not out yet in this hellish place that even he refused to shine on days. My eyes felt heavy with exhaustion yet I was dusting everywhere. My uniform was intact today and it made me wonder if I had accepted defeat in just a few weeks of being here. I didn't want to think of it that way, in my mind I was trying to survive in order to see my siblings one day once again. Though that thought is so far off it is almost unreachable. I have no idea where they have ended or if they are even alive to begin with. I was afraid for my sisters, were they being kept as sexual objects just for fun or were they in a place like this with my own fate? I could only hope they weren't being marked that way.
I came into a room far off in a corridor. It wasn't locked so it must be because it needs cleaning. Once inside everything was covered in dust and spider webs. It made me wonder if I should even be in here. Clearly every room in this palace is spotless for the queen, except this one. That should be warning enough for me to get out. A particular painting caught my eye at the far end of the room. Its edges covered in spider webs as well as all the dust almost covering the fair image. It was a young girl with deep blue eyes, pale skin and raven hair falling down her shoulders. She wore a light red necklace around her swan like neck. The painting was delicate enough and the girl almost looked familiar to me just not quite.
1571 Lombardi first Heir.
I shook my head and hurried to the door, I couldn't ignore the tiny voice at the back of my head telling me to get out of here. Once I reached the door it was too late. Rhea was staring at me with piercing cold eyes that reached my soul freezing it over. Today she was wearing all black except for her white blouse that was covered with a blazer. Her hair was cascading in perfect waves over her square shoulders her delicate arms crossed over her chest that was slightly showing due to the design of the blouse.
Her face was somewhat relaxed, but still she carried fury in her aqua eyes. Today they had a golden ring around the irises, or perhaps it has always been there. They were without a fact, mesmerizing and could manage to take the air from your lungs.
"The door was open, I just thought it needed cleaning; My apologies." I spoke hurriedly. Being in dark lonely places with Rhea could only show red flashing lights with deep warnings signs. Her eyes, now lingering over the previous painting that had also caught my gaze previously.
"This room is off limits." She spoke very serene. I almost didn't believe it was the narcissistic queen. I could only nod not wanting to spoil her weird mood. She stepped aside and allowed me to almost run out of the place. My heart heaved in my chest fear still roaming free within its thick bones. I didn't hear her leave the room, or she was smooth enough to leave without making any noise. I didn't dare to look back.
In my rush I bumped into someone, in the process knocking down a tray of silvery. It was then I made eye contact with the girl that sleeps in my room on the bed below my own.
"Easy there." She spoke a light smile on her lips. We quickly started to gather the finery before we got whipped or something of that matter.
"I'm sorry, I was not paying attention of my surroundings."
"Clearly." The brunette spoke with humor in her tone. Once we got everything back on the tray her eyes held mine.
"You look like you've seen a ghost." She spoke softly.
"More like a demon dressed in silk."
"Ahh." She said in realization. For a person that was being held captive against her will, she seemed pretty relaxed. I came to understand what she said the other night in our room, death is an escape out of this place. It dawn on me that she must have accepted her fate by now and was pretty content with dying when the time came. I didn't know if it was sad or necessary to feel that way.
