"Nadia" I whispered. My eye sight must be betraying me, this was not happening not now when my life was as hectic as it could get. But that did not stop the brunette from walking closer, taking my hands in her soft ones. It was when I felt her sweet touch that I broke down. In a second her welcoming arms were around me holding me like time had always been at our advantage. My arms stayed dead by my side, incapable of returning such gesture. I was glad she left and for a while saved herself, but she left me all alone, she took my heart with her the night she abandoned me.
"It has been so long my love." She spoke connecting her lips to my cheek. I felt the dampness of her tears on my face, or perhaps they were my own tears; either way it did not matter, not when everything is just falling apart. "H-how are you here?" Her dark green eyes revealed much distress behind them, many years of fighting to keep herself alive and many sleepless nights to keep herself safe.
"I don't have much time, this is all a plan. I was chosen to be sent here as a slave. I saw your sister from afar and I could not believe my eyes and then she told me you were also here and I couldn't hold back, but I can't be seen in this area of the palace. Just know that we will all be free again." She pecked my lips and a strange sensation burned in the pits of my stomach. I've missed my once lover, the girl who taught me how to fight and how to survive. She was still as beautiful as the day we met. Her tan skin, her long dark hair and her deep eyes that always held much fight and kindness. Her scent was so familiar I just wanted to shower in it.
Our encounter was so quick it made me wonder if it had only been my mind playing tricks on me. I stood stoic without knowing what to think or do. "Eden." Silence. "Eden!" My sister shook me by the shoulders making me stare into her brown eyes filled with worry. "She's here, she kissed me." I spoke breathlessly to my worrying sister. She knew what this meant. Only trouble brewing its way into my life. If Rhea finds out, I don't even want to think about what she would do.
"We can't speak here about this, where were you?" She dragged me to a nearby empty room. Closing the heavy door behind her. I covered my face with my hands, it was a moment of desperation alone.
"I saw Matheo." She stood waiting for me to elaborate so I did. "He is in a high security part of the castle, only Rhea has access to it but he seems fine. I couldn't tell him about the agreement, you should have seen the look in his eyes. He thought you were dead, mind games Rhea played with him."
"I am very glad he is alive and well, but Eden what will you do with this whole situation? You can't possibly marry Rhea Lombardi."
"What am I to do? She controls everything and I need you all to be safe, during times like these safety comes with a prize."
"Postpone this whole ordeal, the queen won't announce anything unless she knows of the whereabouts of our siblings and by the looks of it they are hiding quite well. I believe they are in conspiracy with the rebels." She caught my attention with her final statement. It made my heart beat faster and my hands sweat.
"I think they know we are here, that is why Nadia was sent here. As a beacon of hope."
"Ivanna, we won't get out of here if a war brews. Rhea has armies working for her day and night, powerful soldiers capable of destroying entire cities not to mention the queen herself, she doesn't even need an army to annihilate the human kind."
"We need to give this an opportunity, if we don't we will be slaves forever and our kind will become extinct." My heart sank within my chest, what she said is sadly our reality. We will never be free without a war.
The kiss I shared with the mistress of the house came to haunt my mind like a dangerous black fog, it took over entirely as if it belonged there all along. It felt so different to kissing Nadia.
