Eden's POV
After such an eventful and nightmare worthy day, Rhea had disappeared with her siblings to attend matters of the council. They were not happy with her, so much could be told by the way the man addressed her. I would be lying if I dare say it did not worry me, they spent the entire afternoon behind closed doors. I had a small dinner with my two siblings who appeared extremely interested in what the council had to say to the queen. The entire palace had witness Rhea's rage, even though it was James who taunt her into losing control they were still siblings, and her behavior was irrational.
My heart fell down to my feet when James slit her throat as if it was nothing, I did not like to see Rhea hurt. It just made her lose her head even more, the look in her eyes was so vacant, so horribly dark it scared me to my core. Between heaven and earth I must never forget the darkness she possesses, she could be daylight one moment, and complete darkness the other. It is simply who she is and that will never change.
I laid in bed thinking of everything, every movement, every glance, every word coming from her, and I wonder what happened to her in the past that made her such way. I overheard that day what she said to Keana, all the things she sacrificed in order for them to become who they are today, including the part that hinted that she was a sexual object in her human life. It made me sick to think of all the possible things that could've happened to her.
The diaries existed, they were in that foreign room she kept locked, the same room that had gotten me into so much trouble before, I respected Rhea more now so invading her privacy just seems wrong, but all the answers might be in that old dusty room.
The Lombardi's came from a powerful family, even as human they controlled half a country which I am assuming was Germany, the queen hated to think of her youth, but why? Keana has such a fond memory of Rhea as a child, so what changed? I shook my head, there were so many questions without simple answer, the only way was to gain her trust and hope she reveals the darkness of her past to me.
Thinking in an endless cycle I dozed off; chasing the world of slumber and dreams, it wasn't long when I felt a hand covering my lips making me wake up startled. My eyes adjusted to the dim lighting in the bedroom, Nadia's green eyes were the first thing I noticed. I tried to speak but she shushed me. Seeing her after a few weeks was tedious especially because by now she must have heard the news. I was avoiding her just like she must have been, the guilt ate me alive each day.
"You should not be in here." I spoke once she allowed me.
"Why, do you lay with the queen every night? It must be exhausting." She spoke with anger earning a good slap from me. It was unpredictable, like a self defense mechanism. Who the hell did she think she was to say such things? She held onto her cheek, her anger visibly displayed on her face.
"You do not get to insult me, and you have no rights over me Nadia, get that clear from now on." She laughed bitterly getting up from the bed. "She has you so smitten, right where she wants you to be."
"I am not smitten, I know what I am doing with my life."
"Oh is that so? Is that why you are marrying the one ruler who has us captive? Who made us slaves?"
"I am marrying her to keep my siblings safe from any harm."
"And what does she gain from this wedding? She gets to fuck you? Is that the deal you made Eden?" I stood from my bed and headed towards her, I was highly tempted to slap her again but I have to remind myself that she is talking out of pain.
Truth be told I still had no idea what Rhea got out of this wedding, the thought had crossed my mind, that she was doing all of this to finally own what she couldn't at the start, but she just did not seem like that anymore. She confuses me in every level of knowledge there is, with her it was always the unknown; she loves secrets, the passion and pleasure that come from them so trying to understand her motives was like trying to understand each and every question about the universe.
