Cheyenne shot up from the couch. "Eureka!"
"What?" Michael asked as he groggily attempted to wake up. "Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you."
"You're okay." He shook his head to wake himself up. "What was the 'eureka' for?"
"I remembered something about Gaby."
Oh? And what is it?"
"Her death could possibly have nothing to do with me. What I'm trying to say is that she went on a date Wednesday night. She told me his name was Luke. No. Kyle. Kyle was his name. Don't ask what his last name is. She never told me. Gaby was so happy with him and thought he was the one. So, maybe, it was pure coincidence and has nothing to do with what happened to me." She thought of another alternative. "But then again... What if he posed as someone else so she couldn't identify him? What if he used her to get to me?"
Michael sat up and took her hands in his. "Cheyenne, no matter what he did, posing or not, it's absolutely not your fault." He leaned in closer to her. "Stop blaming yourself. Nothing you could have done could cause someone to do this. Some people are naturally crazy and that is not your fault. You are not to blame. You're probably right. It's probably a coincidence. Either way, we'll catch him."
"I know what you're trying to do, but regardless, I'm still going to feel guilty. Gaby, was my best friend."
"I'm sorry. I really am, but right now, I need you to be strong." He cleared his throat and motioned with his hand toward the couch. "Perhaps go back to sleep as well."
Cheyenne nodded. "Yeah. Sorry."
"Everything will be all right. You just need some rest. Okay?"
"Yeah. You're probably right."
Cheyenne tried to go to sleep, but there was too much on her mind. She knew Michael was right. She did need some rest. She grabbed her purse and removed the bottle from it. She opened the bottle, two sleeping pills dropped into her palm. She took them and drifted off, her last thought about Gabrielle. Oh Gaby. I'm so sorry.
