A/N: I apologize for not updating! It's the last week of the semester and everything's piling up :/ next chapter probably won't come out for another week because of it. Sorry!
I walked out of the office to find Harry. He was standing by the doors where I left him, waiting for me patiently. He was full of empathy and love, opening his arms out for me to embrace and dump all my emotions on. He truly was the best.
"I figured you would want some time to yourself in there so I stayed out here." He said as he held me.
"Thank you," I said sincerely. Although it felt like I should be crying, I think all the tears had dried up since I've been crying so much. "And thanks for calling Monique. You saved me back there."
"What happened?" Harry pulled away to look at me. I guess Monique didn't tell him what she walked in on which was probably better, but now his curiosity was going to eat him alive if I didn't spill the beans.
"They created a serum that turns children into robots pretty much. It turns off their feelings and emotions so that they can make drastic decisions without flinching or feeling regretful later. I was about to be their next trial run when Monique barged in. Thanks to you."
"I'm sorry," Harry said. "I can't imagine losing a friend and a father in the same day."
I shrugged. "They killed Marco..." I said again. The thought of Ryan shooting one of our close friends was still unbelievable to me. Like I just couldn't comprehend the reality of it. "So don't feel bad for me. I'm happy they're out of my life forever."
"Yeah but - "
"No," I cut him off. I told myself I wasn't going to feel bad about sending them off to prison when I'm alone and thinking about the good times Ryan and I had together before this shit went down. I had to be strong and constantly remind myself the horror they did to Marco. "They're getting what they deserve. I want them to rot in prison. That's not going to change."
Deciding not to challenge me, Harry nodded along. "Okay."
"Kelly!"
I whipped around in just enough time to see my friend barreling towards me and embracing me in a tight hug. He squeezed me tight in a desperate grip. Ignoring my throbbing injured arm, I hugged him back and breathed him in. My actual friend. The one who was always there for me and the one I took for granted way too much. I missed his hugs and his nerdy personality. I missed our weekly walks in the park and Sunday brunch dates. I missed him.
"Thank god you're okay. I've been trying to reach you for days but no one would tell me where you were." Ian pulled away.
"It's okay," I sniffled. Okay. Here were the tears. But they weren't out of sadness. They were happy tears because of how grateful I felt to have Ian here with me. "I'm okay. Just a few bumps and bruises."
Ian bit his lip and suddenly looked a little guilty. "I should have known Ryan was up to something. He would always come talk to me on his free time and ask about hacking into servers and - "
"Ian," I stopped him. The more he talked the more he would feel responsible for Ryan's actions and it was important to make sure he knew he was not to blame. "No one could have predicted this. I never would have guessed that Ryan was even capable of this. Don't beat yourself up about it. This isn't your fault."
