A/N: Well, here it is. The last chapter :( To those who've made it this far and kept reading, thank you! I loved reading every comment and appreciated every vote. I still haven't decided if I'm doing a sequel or not, but if I do keep an eye out for it in a couple of weeks. Hope you guys like it!!!
I stood in front of my mirror already late for the party because I was so far gone in my head, I lost track of time. I am over the moon excited that Harry and Louis are releasing their album tonight, opening a new chapter in their lives that will lead them to great success. I couldn't be more psyched for them! But the knot in my stomach is for my mom. This is the first time I will be seeing her face to face after calling her to tell her that I arrested her husband...my dad. She didn't have much emotion to her voice when I called. Then she ended the call promising to call me back. She never did.
I stared at my reflection in my master bathroom mirror. I changed into a black cocktail dress with a flowy skirt and a plunging neckline. Even I noticed there was some more light in my eyes. They were brighter and my skin looked fresher. My father was no longer a problem, my brother and boyfriend are safe, I'm talking to my family once again, and Gregory McDermott is dead and out of my life forever. My stress level has tremendously declined and you can physically see it. It felt good...really really good.
I was pulled out of my trance when my phone rang. "Hello?"
"Hey. Where are you? I thought you would be here by now?" Harry asked. The echoing of people behind him is loud, indicating that I'm late.
"Sorry, I made an Italian pesto layered dip. It took longer than I thought." I lied. Well technically it wasn't a lie. I did make an Italian pesto layered dip, but its been done for a half hour.
"I love that you're an amazing cook," Harry hummed. "Do you want me to come pick you up?"
"No, enjoy your party! I'll be there in a couple minutes I promise."
"Okay..." Harry paused. "Are you sure everything is okay?"
"Yeah," I bit my lip and looked at myself once again in the mirror. Although I was starting to look mentally healthier, there was one thing missing. "Is my mom there?"
"Ah, there it is." Harry said, knowing that was the one problem that was bothering me. "She's not. But Louis called her a couple minutes ago and said she's on her way." I nodded, forgetting that he couldn't see me. "She sounded okay, Kelly."
"Okay..." I sighed, still feeling nervous. Someone knocked on my door, pulling me out of my thoughts. "I'll see you soon, okay Harry?"
"Okay. Drive safe. I love you."
"I love you too." I hung up and walked to my door, looking through the peep hole first. My eyebrows scrunch and I open the door. "Mom?"
"Hi honey," She smiled and approached me for a hug. She squeezed me tight, a hug that meant more than a greeting. I held her back with just as much emotion. This was what I needed. This was my confirmation.
"Mom, I'm -"
"Kelly, you don't have to say a word." My mom cut me off. "I knew there was something going on with your father for a long time. He's been distant and cold to the rest of us. But I never saw this coming."
"Its not your fault, mom."
"And it's not yours either." My mom smiled warmly. "Now. Tell me what that delicious smell is."
"It's a pesto dip," I grinned. "I learned how to make it in Italy."
My mom gawked. "You have to show me sometime."
"You're more than welcome here anytime you like." I tell her. "I make a mean chicken marsala as well. Italian dishes are kind of my forte."
"I would love to. It's a date." My mom said. "Now, we should go. Louis's expecting us. I'll drive since you will probably be staying over tonight anyway." She winked.
