"Okay, let's go," I say as I get Amelia out of her car seat. I grab her hand and we walk into the building. I go straight to my department and walk into my trailer. I set my purse down and I hear a knock at the door.
"Come in," I say. The door opens and my friend, Chyler, walks in. She looks at me and then over at Amelia. She freezes for a second then looks back over at me with a confused expression.
"Um, Melissa?" She asks.
"Yes?" I say.
"Who's the kid?" She asks.
"Amelia," I say. Amelia smiles at Chyler.
"Hi, I'm Amelia. Melissa is my new mommy." Amelia says walking over to Chyler. Chyler bends down to Amelia's level and smiles.
"Hi, I'm Chyler. I'm your mommy's friend." Chyler says. "How old are you Amelia?" Chyler asks.
"I'm three," Amelia says confidently.
"Melissa, can I speak with you outside?" Chyler asks. I nod and follow her out of my trailer.
"When did you have a kid?" Chyler asks once we're out.
"I didn't." I simply say.
"Then did you adopt her?" Chyler asks.
"Yes," I say.
"When?" Chyler asks.
"A week and a half ago," I said pausing to make sure that's right.
"Did you consider what this could do to your career?" Chyler asks.
"Yes, I did. Nothing is going to change. Amelia is a sweet girl, I will never regret adopting her." I say.
"But what happens when you can't watch her because of your long hours?" Chyler asks.
"I'll figure it out. I don't see why this is such a big deal. You have three kids." I say. Chyler doesn't say anything after that. I go back in my trailer and sit down next to Amelia. She had pulled out a princess coloring book I had packed her in a small bag with things she could do while we were filming. She was currently coloring Princess Aurora. Different colors of course.
"Melissa?" She asks after we had been sitting there for awhile.
"Yes, Amy?" I ask.
"Can I call you mommy since you said you were like my mommy?" Amelia asks looking up at me. A huge smile forms on my face. My heartwarming at that question.
"Of course you can," I say, continuing to smile. She smiles back at me before going back to coloring her picture.
"Melissa, it's time to start filming." My co-star, Jeremy, says opening my door. He looks over at Amelia with a questionable look. "Who's that?" He asks.
"Amelia," I say. He nods, seeming satisfied. He leaves and I turn to Amelia.
"Amy, mommy has to go to her job. So we have to go and walk in that big building you saw, okay?" I ask.
"Okay," Amelia says closing her book. "Can I bring Teddy?" She asks. I smile.
"Yeah, you can bring Teddy." She grabs her bear and I help her out of the trailer since it was a little tricky for her to step down. I grab her hand and we walk in.
