Melissa's POV

"I just put Amy to bed." I say, walking down the stairs. I go over to the couch by Chris not being able to sit down because the doorbell rings.

"Who's here at 10:30 at night?" I ask, mainly to myself, and walk over to the door. I open the door, letting the cold Vancouver air in. I look around and see no one. I become very suspicious that someone would be ding dong ditching this late.

"Excuse me ma'am." I hear someone says. I look down and see a little girl. The little girl has a darker complexion, dark brown hair, and very dark brown eyes. I look back at Chris, giving him a very confused stare before turning back to the little girl.

"My mommy told me to give this to you." The little girl says handing me a note.

"Okay, I'll read it. Please, come in. It's too cold for you to be wearing that." I say, noticing the little girl wearing nothing but a short sleeve shirt and some thin pants. She nods hesitantly and walks in. Now it was Chris's turn to give me a confused stare. I open up the note and look at it.

Dear Melissa,

It's been a long time since we've talked. I've never forgotten about you. I'm so very proud of what you have become. A famous actress and, by what I can see, an amazing mother. Anyways, I'm sure you're very confused why there was a small child on your doorstep. I know you might not want to take her in, but I can't take care of her anymore. It's become too hard with my failing health to take care of her and pay for medical bills. Her name is Leah Saylor. Leah's birthday is October 19. If you do decide to take her in, all her paper work will be in the backpack Leah has on her back. There is also two sets of clothes and two sets of pajamas. I really do hope you take Leah in and give her a great life, a life I could never give her.

Sincerely,
B. Montego

I finish reading the note and hand it to Chris. I go over to Leah, I'm guessing, and kneel down to her level.

"So your name is Leah?" I ask. The young girl nods. "I can take your backpack." I say. She hesitantly takes it off and hands it to me. "I'm Melissa." I say.

"I know. My mom told me all about you." Leah responds. Chris finishes reading the note and asks what we're going to do with them.

"I don't know. Let's start with this. Let's have her spend the night and figure out more in the morning. It's almost eleven." I say glancing over to the clock to make sure I was right.

"Okay, yeah. Let's do that." Chris says. I nod and find a blanket and have Leah follow me. I lead her into the spare room.

"Leah, you can sleep here tonight." I say. Leah tries but fails to get on the bed. I don't really blame her. The bed is a little far off the ground. I go over by her and pick her up. I set her on the bed and pull the blankets over her.

"Night Leah." I say heading towards the door.

"Thank you Melissa." Leah says with a slight lisp.

"Of course." I say with a slight smile on my face. I slightly close the door and go back to the living room by Chris.

"What are we going to do?" He ask once I sit down.

"I don't know." I say.
