Something New

"Peridot!" I howled repeatedly as I bolted faster and faster. I didn't care what it would take, I was going to find her. She won't survive a second out there. I won't survive a second with out her...

I ran for about 20 minutes searching for her. For ANY sign of her. Eventually I felt something smooth glaze my toes. I looked down in horror, it was her gem. Luckily, it was not cracked, but it wasn't in perfect condition either.

I clutched the precious jewel in my hands and ran back. When we finally arrived to the temple, the gem glowed a subtle light, while a luminescent silhouette emerged.

"Peridot!" I yelled with excitement. I soon realized that peri was sitting in my arms, so I gently laid her newly formed body on the ground.

"G/N! It's great to see you again! I hope you like my ne-" I cut her off. I gripped her arm tightly and ran to the barn. There was no time for talking.

"G/N!" She hollered, "What was that for! What is going on!"

"Lapis." I hesitated. I didn't want to re-live it. No. She deserved to know, "She... She's gone."

"Lazuli?" Peridot inquired. "What do you mean, 'gone'?"

"It means she's gone. Absent. Departed" I semi-yelled. I felt kinda bad, "Sorry. I... I am just a little shook, I guess."

"It's alright," She comfortingly said as she sat down beside me. "You don't have to talk about it."

After that there was just some silence while we cuddled, leaving me to my thoughts

This is why I liked Peridot so much. She understood. No one on homeworld ever understood. Sure she is not perfect, but she tries her best to be, and I love her that way. I would do anything to protect her, no matter what the cost, whether it meant the complete and total destruction of others or even.. me. That is why I'm staying out of this fight. I need to protect her. I felt that feeling again. What was it called? I don't know. What was it that the Steven said, "Love"?, but what is love?

I shortly came to the conclusion that I would tell her about what happened. "Peridot," I said, breaking the silence, "What I meant by Lapis is gone is," I swallowed hard, "She trapped herself a THE Jasper in an unstable fusion." I think I felt tears run down my face. I don't remember, and frankly, I didn't care.

Peridot stood up, leaving me on the floor. "G/N, we have to fight back." She said seriously.

"No." I retaliated sternly back.

"Why! We can not just leave them alone to be shattered!"

"I said," I was becoming more frustrated, "No."

"But why!"

"Because I can't fight my best friend!" The world suddenly stopped, and went quiet, as if the music stopped in a movie.

"Fine. I'm going. If I don't come back, it will be your fault."

That last sentence stuck me as if it were a bolt of lightning. If I did not go with her, she would die. I needed to protect her.

"Hey. You aren't going anywhere" She looked at me indignantly, "without me!" I finished, and her face immediately lit up.

We strutted out of the barn, and ran out to the temple. When the soft grains of sand finally massaged out feet, we saw that, unsurprisingly, Malachite was still there, attacking the crystal gems.

We ran towards her, together. I know we were together, but at the same time, I never felt more alone. Why? The disgusting thought in the back of my mind that only one of us might be walking up the hill in victory.

We continued to attack her, but to no avail. Eventually, malachite just became annoyed and just knocked us back. Over and over again, Until she did it hard enough. She blew us back so far that we went flying through the air. Wanting to protect my Peri, I hugged her tiny body, and she hugged me back.

I noticed a soft glow from both of our gems, we became engulfed in light. That single moment was only a few seconds, but felt like a eternity. I suddenly knew what 'love' was. I suddenly understood all of these new 'feelings' were. I no longer felt alone. In fact, I only felt one thing. Love. And I don't know how, but I was as if I could read Peridots mind, because I knew she felt the same way. It was strange, but... amazing at the same time.

We soon took on a more solid from. A fusion. We were F/N.
