*Hey beautiful people! Thanks for choosing to read "The Diary of a Bloody Fresher". It's my first story and I really hope you enjoy reading it. Please feel free to leave comments. *

There's this belief some of my friends have, or had, you know, before they met me, that short people usually learn to be bold, and even learn to have foul mouths, just to prevent themselves from being bullied. Well, I'm the exception that changes this perception. I AM NOT BOLD. I'm just a dark, short and shy teenager. In fact, the day I was resuming University, my mom's 'talk' was not the usual "boys are not your priority" talk mothers give, but about stepping out of my shell and how God has not given us a Spirit of fear but power, love and a sound mind... Yeah, that's my momma! My pals have tried their best, since I've known them to help me a little in stepping out of my shell, but haven't really helped much.

However, don't mistake this to mean I'm gentle, because I'm not. In fact when I get totally comfortable with you, I could be the craziest thing to be around. Even sometimes while I'm reclining in my shell, I still have my not-so-gentle thoughts and comments in my head.

I'm a student at the University of Ibadan, studying Law. My family is also Ibadan based. I stay in Queen Idia Hall of residence on campus. Oh! Most importantly, I'm just a Fresher. Well, that means I'm in my first year. I have an amazing bunch of friends here in uni, which include my pals from secondary school and my nine roommates. Yeah, nine, my room is very big, the biggest in my hall of residence, so they put ten of us in it. One of my roommates, Dunni, even happens to be a friend from secondary school. I also have my two big sisters here too. I have high hopes of being my very best, but then, I could be super lazy, you know, like every regular teenager. And what do I love the most? It's to sleep! And I hate distractions from my sleep. Like phone calls.

I hate phone calls, God knows. Even when I'm not sleeping. Just chat me up for God's sake. People tell me that will change pretty soon as I mature. Whatever. Right now, I hate them! And right at this moment, this dear caller has ruined my perfect afternoon sleep time. I just stare at my phone's screen while it rings, seems my brain is still asleep, I can't process what to do next. But soon the caller's name sinks in, it's Samuel, one of my closest pals.

Urrrrgghhh!

'Hey brother.'

'Are you in your room cos I'm in your hall already?'

'Awwn, to what do I owe this pointless visit?'
I mean, he definitely has no meaningful reason for coming.

He scoffs 'I and Omotola were heading out to the mall, and when we got to the front of your hall, we decided to hop in to say hello.'

Urrrrggghhh! Omotola. The last name I wanna hear right now. She's Samuel's girlfriend and she's super clingy. Samuel's like the closest of all my pals, almost like a brother. So she's just always there, all over my face. Urrrrggghhh!

'Wait is it four o'clock already?'

Then there's a knock on the door.

'If it wasn't I won't be in, Dumbelina'. He says from the other side of the door.

(In my school, visitors can't be in halls of residence before its 4 pm)

I hate it when he thinks it's okay to use words like Dumbelina when referring to me in front of her. Don't get it wrong, Samuel and I go way back, you know, to secondary school, just like my other three super close pals, Marv, Light and Nimi. And of course, we call each other names. But in Omotola's presence, that's a no no, she'll just think it's okay to disrespect me. I deserve to be respected...right?

I unlock my door and let them in, with not as much as a smile on my face.

'Now I thought you'd be glad to see me.'
