'You're having a great time, right?' Chris asks, looking like he's really hoping I am.
I almost laugh at the very much he feels he has to do to make it up. I actually am enjoying the show. It's comedy. What's not to love?'Yes, yes I am. Um, isn't, um... Never mind.'
'No, what is it? Ask please.'
'I just noticed that I haven't seen Albert. Was going to ask if he wasn't coming or he's here but I just haven't noticed him. But then, if he was here - - - '
'He's quite conspicuous, can hardly go unnoticed, we should have noticed his presence.'
I chuckle. That's exactly what I had in mind.
'I'm coming. I want to get candy floss or a snack or something, outside.'
'I could get it for you.'
'No, I'm fine - - it's fine. I'll get it. Be right back.'
Getting outside the hall, I bring out my phone from my purse. I dial Deb's number twice but she doesn't pick up. Honestly, I just want to be with the girls right now. My plan? It's to get them to come out and spend a little time with them here, under the guise of getting snacks. I try Dunni but she doesn't pick up either. Pretty disappointing. I guess I'll just get my floss and head back in.
As I'm done getting the floss and about to walk back into the hall, I nearly bump into someone.
'Hi, Etse!'
'Feranmi, hi! How're you doing?'
'I'm good. I see you're doing pretty well too.'
'Yeah-- um - - yes, I am.'
'That's nice. So how're you enjoying the show?'
'It's, um, fun actually.'
Why am I stuttering? Why am I jittery?
'Um, see you around.''No, not so fast.' She stretches out her arm to obstruct me as I'm about to walk away.
'Uh, what?'
She smiles. 'I'm just going to ask straight up.' She sighs. 'What are you doing?'
'I don't understand you.'
'You do. Two brothers? Doesn't particularly end well... At least it won't for you. They're brothers. You're the option that can be easily forgone.'
'What does that even mean? I - - I don't appreciate you talking to me like this.'
'Just cut it and be straight forward already. No need to lead both of them on. Be honest with whoever should take the big L.'
'It's not even like that.'
'It's like what?'
'Please, I don't appreciate anyone meddling in my private life.'
'It may be your private life but it also involves - -'
I cut in. 'I know you care deeply about your friend. But he didn't ask you for this favour. Even if whatever you're insinuating is the case, he's a guy, he'll get over it. What would he do? Cry?'
'Wow! Nice to really know how you think.'
'And what does that even mean?'
'What does it sound like it means?'
'Sounds like an insult.'
'You just spoke like one with quite a shallow mind, I expected better since he speaks so highly of you.'
'That is definitely an insult and I won't just stand here and take it from you.'
'Sure, you don't have to. You're excused. You can head right back into the hall.'
