Chapter 1: Here's To Firsts

I walk through the front door of my apartment and sigh. College is finally over for the year. Being out for summer feels like a weight being lifted off my shoulders. (Haha, the puns.) I set my purse down on the kitchen table.

My phone buzzes and I quickly glance at it seeing I got a message from my group of friends.

Kaylen: Hey guys! Sorry for the late notice, but, I have a surprise for y'all! I rented a beach cabin for us! There is plenty of room for all of us. We have it for the first 3 weeks in June, so you can come and leave whenever you want! Start arriving tomorrow :)

Instantly I respond:

Gracelyn: Yay! I'm gonna start packing. Thanks, Kay!

My phone continues blowing up with texts from every friend saying they are gonna make it.

While I'm making a list of things I need to pack, my phone starts to ring.

Gracelyn: Hello?

Shawn: Hey!

Gracelyn: Hey, what's up?

Shawn: Are you going to the cabin?

Grace: Yeah, are you?

Shawn: Yeah, I am. What are you packing?

I chuckle. Yes! I really wanted him to come. Oh my gosh, a whole month with Shawn. Omg, butterflies. Wait, what? Do I have feelings for him? No, don't think of that, Gracelyn, you two are just friends.

Gracelyn: Well, some t-shirts, casual shirts along with some jeans and shorts. I brought like 4 hoodies as well. If we go partying, some cute dresses.

Shawn: So, I just need to bring all that?

Gracelyn: Yeah, pretty much. Especially the dresses.

Shawn: Haha, very funny. I'm gonna pack then come to your house.

Gracelyn: Sounds good.

Shawn: Okay.

Gracelyn: See you in a little bit!

Shawn: Okay, bye!

About thirty minutes later, I hear, "Hey, I'm here!", instantly knowing it's Shawn. "In my bedroom!", I shout standing in front of my bed.

"What's up.", he says as he walks in. "hey.", I say, smiling at him.

"You're already done packing?", I ask him, confused. "You do remember I'm a guy and we take no time packing or generally doing anything, right?", he asks. I roll my eyes and nod. "Yeah. Most girls take forever. Not me, though. I'm almost done.", I say while looking up with a smile on my face.

He lays himself on my bed as I continue packing. "Hey, Grace. So, could I just sleep over here tonight since we are leaving so early tomorrow and driving together?", Shawn asked me, hesitantly. My cheeks blush a crimson color. "Totally. I should have offered that in the first place.", I say, turning away from him so he couldn't see me blushing. "Are we going to share a room at the cabin?", he asks. I can practically hear the smirk on his face.

"If you want.", I say, casually, trying not to show my actual feelings. "Really? I thought you would say no." "Nope. I mean, we are just friends.", I answer, not liking the answer I gave him. I turn back towards him, laying some clothes in my suitcase. I glance at his face, seeing his face fall into a frown. 

"Hey, do you want some dinner?", I ask. "Yeah. we could order some pizza.", he answers me. I nod and he orders the pizza.

While we are waiting for the pizza, we play a card game. "Are you excited for the trip?", I ask. He nods, setting down a Ace. "I haven't seen the boys in a while." "Me, too. I miss them and the girls." A couple minutes later, the doorbell rings.

"I'll get it!", we both yell at the top of our lungs. We scramble off the bed, Shawn pushing me out of the way and running down the stairs. "SHAWN!", I yell. "I would be nice if I were you. I'll pay!", he yells up the stairs. I keep quiet, I want free pizza.

He runs up the stairs with the pizza and crashes on the floor. I sit next to him and grab the remote as he opens the box. I flip through my tv providers (netflix, hulu, etc.), stopping on netflix and putting it on The Office, one of our favorite shows.

When the episode finishes, I take my last bite of pizza and Shawn closes the box, bringing it down stairs. I grab my night clothes, quickly changing and brushing my teeth.

When I'm done, I open the door to see a cute Shawn looking at me from my bed. "Uh, are you sleeping in here?", I ask. He usually sleeps in the guest bedroom when he stays over. "Oh, um, no. I was just telling you goodnight.", he says, getting off of my bed.

"Night.", he says, walking towards the door. "Wait. Um, I mean, you can just sleep in here if you want.", I say. "Really? Okay, I can make a pallet on the floor.", he says, grabbing some spare blankets around my room. "Shawn, don't be silly. I think we are close enough friends that we can sleep in the same bed.", I say, nervously. "R-r-right.", he stutters over his words.

I hop into bed and put my phone on it's charger. I lay on my back and turn off the lights. "Shawn?", I whisper. "Yeah?", he whispers back. "Is this awkward?", I ask. "Is what awkward?", he asks, turning on his side to face me. I turn to face him. "This.", I say, gesturing to us laying by each other. "No. well, not for me at least. I've spent the night here before.", he says. I laugh. "Yeah. In the other room." He chuckles. "Yeah. I get what you are saying. It's not going to be awkward if we don't think it's awkward. Have you every shared a bed with a guy? Wait, stupid question. You haven't even had a boyfriend.", he says. I chuckle. "Well, here's to firsts.", he says, yawning and closing his eyes.

Little tips on reading this book:

- in each chapter there will be a phrase of words or a single word that is italicized and bolded. Those are the chapter names! 

- I LOVE visuals. So, most likely there will be pictures for some of the chapters! 

-I love communicating with people! If you comment, I will most certainly answer back. I love talking to people!

-sometimes after chapters I'll have Instagram chapters. Basically where the characters "post" and it will definitely have something to do with the story, such as a event that happened in the story :)

Please keep in mind the entire story is not updated yet! This is the only FINAL edit chapter. Meaning, this chapter is done being edited and will be the permanent chapter staying up for for this story. :)

Thank you SO MUCH for the love and support on this story! It's crazy that we are almost at 2.2K reads. I literally started this story in 8th grade, simply because I loved Shawn Mendes. 

Now, I'm the same lol. Just matured and not obsessed with him as much as I used to be, but still love him just as much <3
