{Gracelyn Adams}

"How do I look?", Shawn says, walking into our room at Maw Maw's.
"Oh, my gosh! You look great!", I say, going up to him and kissing him. "Like, you look hot.", I say, smirking. "Oh, really?", Shawn says, wrapping his arms around my lower back.

"Mhm.", I say, biting my lip. "Think we have time to have a little bit of fun?", he asks, slightly pushing me onto the bed. I nod. "I think so.", I say, pulling him close and crashing our lips together.

----------------------

"Okay, let's go.", I say, taking one final look at us in the mirror. "Grace, we look fine.", Shawn chuckles. "I know, I just want us to look perfect.", I say, grabbing my purse. "And we do, so you have nothing to worry about.", he says, kissing my cheek.

"I love you, you know that?", I say. "I know. I love you, too.", he says, kissing my forehead. I smile and unwrap myself from his arms as we walk out of the room and down the hallway.

"Well, don't y'all look fancy!", Maw Maw says. "Yup! We are off to the halloween party.", I tell her. "Alright! Well, have fun you two!", she says as we walk out the front door.

We get into the Uber we ordered and we start the drive to Amelia's house.

-----------------------

"Holy shit.", Shawn says, seeing the house. I chuckle. "Yeah, that was my reaction when I first saw it. It's the biggest house in the area.", I say.

"What the hell do her parents do?", Shawn asks. "Well, first off, she is going to college to be a surgeon. Her dad is an anesthesiologist and her mom is a gynecologist. Both make well over $100,000 a year.", I say.

"Wow. Um, there are a lot of people here.", Shawn says, looking at the cars parked everywhere. "Yeah, there are. So, just stay by me.", I say, grabbing his hand as we get out of the car.

"Oh my gosh, Grace!", I hear being shouted. I look in the direction of the voice and see Kaylen, dressed as a Barbie. "Oh my gosh, Kay!! What the hell are you doing here!", I say. "You know I NEVER miss one of Amelia's parties. Especially not the Halloween party. Hands down, best one of the year. Shawn!", Kaylen says, giving Shawn a quick hug. "Hey, Kay! Great to see you.", he says.

"Great to see y'all, too! Grace, what are y'all doing in town?", she asks me. "Um, well, Paw Paw passed away.", I say, looking at the ground. "Oh my God.", she says, pulling me in for a hug. "I'm so sorry, Grace." "I know. Thank you.", I say. "Well, let's get your mind off of it for a bit, yeah? Beyond this door, leads to happiness for the rest of the night.", she says.

I smile at her goofiness. "Alright, weirdo. You are talking weird.", I say. "Might have already had a drink. And another.", she says, grinning. "Okay, take it easy. It's literally 7pm. Hey, is Jack here?", Shawn says. "No, the boys are recording some music this week. If he had known that y'all were going to be here, he would have for sure came.", Kaylen says.

"Well, that's okay. It's a stressful week for them.", Shawn says, knowing the feeling. "Yeah, it is. Anyways, go in! Everybody will be so happy to see you!", Kay says. "Girl, you know all these people hated me when we were in high school.", I say. "Well, now they are all going to be falling at your feet. Show them what they missed.", she says, winking and walking off.

"Ready for the chaos?", I ask Shawn. "Ready as I'll ever be.", he smiles. I kiss his lips and smile back at him. We walk in the house and are immediately flooded with bright lights and loud music. "Holy shit, that's Shawn Mendes." "Yeah, with Gracelyn. What the hell?" "Didn't you hear they were dating?" "Holy shit, I can't believe she is dating someone famous."

I grab his hand and he wraps an arm around my lower back. "Not gonna lie, it feels awesome to walk in here with you.", I say, blushing. "Eh, why is that?", he asks, looking down at me. "Because. Everyone thought I was a nobody. And everyone is shocked I could get you."

"Gracelyn Adams." I turn around and see Amelia standing there, dressed as a Cher from Clueless. "Oh my God, I haven't seen you in years. Literally years.", she says. I smile and run to her. "I'm here. In the flesh." "And you brought someone with you.", she says, looking behind me at Shawn.

"Hi, I'm Shawn. Nice to meet you.", he says, shaking her hand. "Yeah, I know who you are. How could I not?", she says, laughing. "Anyways, nice to meet you. What have you two been up to?", she asks. "You know. Just living life. Nothing much.", I say. "Oh my god, shut up. You are a freaking celebrity now! Always the humble one, Grace.", she says. "I'm not a celebrity." "Yes, you are, girl. Do y'all want a drink?", she asks, holding up her red solo cup. I shake my head. "Not right now. Do you, Shawn?", I ask, tapping his hand. "Um, no. Maybe later. Thank you, though.", he responds to her.

She heads off talking to all the other party guests. "Oh, my gosh, Grace!" I turn around, seeing Stacy. The main mean girl. And of course in a devil costume. "Oh, shit.", I say. Shawn turns around and says, "What?" "It's Stacy." "Wha- not that Stacy, right?" "No, it's that Stacy.", I say, looking at him.

"Oh, my gosh, it's been forever!", she says, pulling me in for a hug. "Haha, yeah. It has.", I say, pulling away. "So, you've been busy. You're like really famous now.", she giggles. "Um, not really.", I chuckle. "Yeah, you are. When you were here you were literally a nobody. Now, everyone knows who you are!", she says, excitedly.

"Hi! I'm Stacy!", she says, hugging Shawn. "Oh! Um.", Shawn says, lifting his arms up so he doesn't touch her. "Yeah, that's enough.", I smile and pull her off of him and grab his hand. "What, I'm just being friendly.", she says with an attitude.

"A little too friendly for our liking.", Shawn says, holding our hands up. "Oh, yeah. I forgot y'all had a casual thing going on.", she says, smirking. "It's not casual. It's pretty serious, in my opinion.", Shawn says.

"Well, when y'all are um, done with this little thing, I'm free.", she says, winking at Shawn. "What happened to Eddie? I thought y'all were forever.", I say. "Shut up. Do not speak of him.", she says, walking away quickly.

"Um, okay.", Shawn says. "I told you. She is crazy.", I say, laughing. "Yeah, you are right. She is so upfront. What's her deal with this 'Eddie' guy?" "She cheated on him so he broke up with her. They had been dating for 5 years.", I answer him. "Wow. She must be ashamed if she is acting that way.", Shawn says.

"Oh, for sure. Someone wrote slut on her locker in school.", I say. "Damn. She messed up, but nobody deserves to be talked about like that.", he responds. "I agree. Let's go dance.", I say. "Okay.", he smiles.

--------------------------------

{a couple days later}

"Grace? Can we talk?", Sarah asks, opening the door to the treehouse. I set my book down and nod. "Sure." Sarah notices Shawn and says, "Oh, good, you're here, too. I wanted to talk to the both of you. I wanted to say thank you so much for letting me stay with y'all. It means so much to me. But, I've decided to go back home. To live with mom.", Sarah says.

"Really? That's awesome.", I say. "You think so? I didn't know what you were going to think.", Sarah says. "No, I think it's a good decision. She needs you. And you need her. You realize you have to move back down here, right?", I ask.

She nods. "Yeah, I do. But, the two weeks we've been here, I've hung out with my old friends and it feels like nothing changed. I think I'll do well here.", she smiles. I return the smile. "That's great. Don't forget me though.", I wink.

She winks back and says, "Never."
