Shawn walked me home later that night and I went asleep with a smile on my face.
I woke up and heard my mum crying. I walked downstairs and saw her sitting down crying. "Mum! Are you okay?" I asked. "We just need to stick together now, more than ever" she said holding me close. "Why?" I asked. "Dad isn't getting any work at the moment, bills are stacking up and we can just about eat" she stopped talking as she started crying again. "It's fine, we'll be okay soon, I promise" I said. I hate saying that word promise when I never mean it. "Anyway, are you meeting any friends today?" She asked. "Um yeah I guess" I said standing up. I went up to my room and checked my phone.
SHAWN: hey wanna meet today? Xxxx
I thought for a moment, and then I replied.
MALIA: sorry I can't today mums making me help her with house work x but I'll see you tomorrow at school Xxxx.
I took a deep breath, this is the first time I've lied to someone who I truly care about. Instead I scrolled through my contacts and clicked on my friend Lotta.
I walked through the busy streets of Toronto as I tried to look for a little job that I could do, just to add a bit of cash for mum to pay the bills. I walked passed a small cafe and saw a notice that said they needed staff. I walked in and asked to speak to someone about it. After a while they finally agreed to give me the job.
