As I checked the temperature outside I pulled a second pullover over my tshirt. I was absolutely not looking forward to the next hour. Why did they want to walk around at the darkest -it was new moon so not even the moon was on the sky- and coldest night. It was already autumn but still only 6 degrees outside.
"Are you freezing?" George asked wondering.
"No, not yet." I answered. "I'm just preparing."
He gave me an amused and skeptic look and sat down to put on his shoes.
I took my shoes as well and sat down on the stairs. When I was done I looked up and saw Blake watching me.
"Cool shoes." He said and smiled secretly what looked -I had to admit- kinda hot. I looked down at my shoes again. They were the Nikes which I had bought on the last day before I had left for England. Then I looked up again, smiling back, knowing that he remembered our first (and for me very embarrassing) meeting. I still wondered what a big coincidence it was that exactly these three boys were living in our house now. For me it was also a proof for the existence of fate.
"Alright. Have you finished?" Adam said into our circle and grabbed a flashlight.
Finished yes. Ready ... no. That's what I thought. But I said nothing.
"I thought we would have a night walk in the dark. Why do you take a flashlight with you?" George asked Adam. But Adam just winked and said quietly "Little security measure."
The boys seemed amused because George grunted, Reece rolled his eyes but smiled and Blake slowly shook his head with a smile as well.
Personally I was very glad that at least Adam looked after our security even though a flashlight wouldn't keep attackers away in an emergency. Nevertheless it was better than nothing.
Still sceptic I followed the boys out of the house and waited for Adam who locked the door. When he turned around I asked, "Why are we even doing that? I don't get the sense."
He smiled at me and replied, "Just for fun. Come on, give the boys a chance."
"The boys?" I asked surprised, having no clue what this idea should have to do with the boys as persons.
"Yes. They want you to have some fun with them." Adam explained. "Haven't you noticed that they are trying to make you happy?"
I thought about it.
"They do." He confirmed. "So give them a chance and try to have some fun."
I laughed sarcastically. "But watching a movie would have been definitely more fun for me - and less anxiously!"
Adam giggled quietly and said again, "Come on, you don't even know how funny a night walk can be!" Then he walked away to catch up with the others. I didn't want to walk alone, therefore I hurried as well.
When I arrived at them I tried to find a spot in the middle of the small group. There I would feel safer. George and Blake walked ahead while Adam chatted a bit with Reece behind me. Right now we were about to leave the lightened streets and go into the woods. I shivered a bit but kept on walking bravely.
'What a stupid idea is that? Which idiots are walking through the woods in the middle of the night?! Of course my idiots. Do they actually know what could happen in the dark? No of course not. Why did they even get me to come with them?! I could sleep so peacefully in my bed right now. But no...' I was busy grumbling in my head.
"Are you okay back there?" Blake and George turned around to see how I was doing.
"Yeah, I'm okay" I tried to look so even though I was very upset. But I remembered Adam's words, therfore I gave my best.
They went a bit slower so that they were next to me, I in the middle. Now I felt safer because they covered my sides but at the same time it was much scarier because now I was at the front... our backs were save because of Adam and Reece, who were still talking happily by the way. I wondered how they could stay so relaxed while I wanted to ask Adam for his flashlight so badly. The only reason I didn't were the boys...
