After a very, very long journey, I finally landed in my hometown Bunbury. When I waited for my luggage I texted Adam that I had arrived. He was probably already here to pick me up but I had told him that I would notify him anyway.
As I had expected, he waited at the exit and leaned casually against the wall. During the past year he apparently hadn't changed his look. He looked like on the last day we had seen each other. When I had left.
Adam found me when I came closer and his whole face lightened up. He ran towards me to hug me.
"Here you are. I missed you a lot!"
"I missed you too." I replied.
It wasn't only that we hadn't been allowed to visit each other in the last year, we also hadn't been allowed to call each other! The rules had been very strict.
He took a step back and watched me.
"Wow, you look amazing!" He made a hesitantly break as if he would figure out if his question would be appropriate. And I knew which question it was.
"How are you?" He finally said.
"Better... I guess." I didn't want to say more. And Adam knew. Therefore he only smiled and went on, carrying my suitcases.
The last year had helped a lot. Being so far away from my home country - and my past - eased me. Only the different air helped a lot. Different people, different home. Nothing what reminded me of my past.
My psychologist had been right. When I stepped outside and breathed in the Australian air I felt only the feeling of home. Nothing worse. I relaxed.
Adam guided me to his car. Nobody said anything. Of course there would be a lot of stuff to talk about. I mean, we haven't talked to each other since a year! But the circumstances didn't allow a cheerful chat.
To break the silence he turned on the radio where the news came. Then we discussed about some politicans to divert from the strange atmosphere. It worked.
We arrived at Adam's little house where I lived as well. The house wasn't far away from the beach and a bit outside the town. I loved the place.
"Has anything changed?" I finally said.
"Uhm... yeah, it has." But he couldn't say more because he got interrupted by a stormy Eva who jumped into my arms. She screamed. At least she hadn't changed.
"I'm SO glad you are back! The last year was freaking boring! How are you? You look amazing!"
I laughed and waited a bit that she calmed down. Then I smiled at her and said "Yes, I am. I guess it helped, but we'll see." She smiled in relief.
I took my rucksack and went into my room to unpack it. Eva went into the kitchen to make a milkshake for me.
The first thing I did was charging my phone. Stupid iPhone battery.
Suddenly a strange voice said "Cool shoes!"
I shocked and turned around.
A boy with brown hair leaned against the door-frame. He looked familiar to me and I knew exactly where I had seen him before. It was the boy from the shoe shop on my last day before I had left."Nice to see you again." He said.
