Blake showed his band members the new part he had composed and they reacted just as delighted as I had.
"This is really good, Blake!" Reece said and George squeezed his shoulder, smiling.
Adam praised him as well and didn't even want to change anything. "It's just perfect how it is." He said with a smile.
Blake grinned proudly and looked at me, whyever. I didn't know what to do so I just smiled back at him. I had caught him more often when he just looked at me the last days. It was kind of confusing for me but also somehow cute. I just didn't quite know what he was aiming for by looking at me or what he expected me to do. Did I miss something?
"Good. The song is finished." Adam took me back to reality and Blake broke our eye contact.
"Which means we can call Joe, don't we?" He added.
"Yeah we can." George, Reece and Blake agreed.
Adam studied his watch and calculated how late it was in Europe.
"He could still be awake if we have luck. Let's call him."
I looked for our tabled, opened Skype and gave it to Adam. He typed something in and then the typical sound of Skype appeared. We waited.
The guys sat on the sofa so that Joe could see everybody but me and Adam. We were on the other side.
Somebody took the call.
"Good evening to other side of the earth!" Joe said tiredly but friendly.
"Hello!" The boys cheered.
"I hope it's important, you are keeping me from sleeping." Joe said jokingly.
"It actually is!" Reece said excited.
"We just finished 'Perfume', maybe you want to hear it." Blake explained with a proud grin.
"Really?! For sure, show me!" Joe said delighted.
I took the tablet and tried to keep the angle so that they could still see each other. The boys took their guitars, checked if they were still tuned - they had just played them, of course without were still tuned, but they did it probably out of habit - and looked at each others eyes. Then Blake told from one to four like he always did and they started playing.
I had to keep me from singing along with them since I had heard the song as often as they had played it and knew every single detail about it. Plus it was such a tune, I would have loved to sing with them.
When the boys came to the bridge and the faster part began my grin grew. It sounded honestly so good and since I knew how much effort it had been to come to that result, I was very, very proud of them.
I wanted to see Joe's reaction so badly but I wasn't allowed to look at it. Or to get into the field of vision of the camera.
The song finished and the boys looked up, excited about what Joe would say.
At first he didn't say anything but then he cheered and congratulated them. "Wow, I'm very satisfied, you can be proud! Seriously."
"Thank you" the boys said, smiling into the camera, each smile bigger than the other.
"So now, you need to go on, the next song should be finished in the next weeks. Do you have ideas already?" The manager asked.
"Yes, we have some ideas but we don't know how to implement them. But we'll keep on working on it." George answered while the others nodded to support him.
"Good. So, you are doing well, as I see it." Joe said and the others confirmed it with another nod.
"Again, I'm really satisfied. Keep on working and we'll hear from each other when the next song's finished. Uhm, I'd suggest at the latest in two or three weeks. I know it's no long time but we need to keep the schedule. You want to publish your first EP next year, so you need to get it finished. I believe in you."
The boys nodded once again, this time with a little worried face expression about Joe's announcement that they should have finished their next song in only two weeks.
"Where is Adam by the way?" Joe asked.
"I'm here." Adam yelled from behind the camera and stepped in front of it, waving at Joe. "Hi!"
"Hey, mate! Can I talk to you for a while?" Joe said.
"Sure, what is it?" Adam replied.
"Just about how it works and how we'll go on. I need to know some things." Joe said friendly.
"Okay." Adam said and took the tablet to go out of the room with Joe.
"Bye guys!" Joe yelled through Skype before they would be away.
"Bye Joe!" The boys answered in sync.
Then Adam closed the door and we were alone.
"Good, Joe likes it!" Blake said excited.
"Yeah, he does!" George joined him and they chatted a bit about the song and Joe's reaction.
I sat there and listened to them silently. Occasionally I nodded my head yes or agreed with them but most of the time I said nothing.
"So what are we doing today? I'd suggest to do a break from songwriting. My head feels so empty now." Reece said and laughed, the others agreed.
There it was again. Blake's look. I couldn't define his face expression. Was it reflexive? I couldn't wonder longer about it because George and Reece had just decided to do a livestream on Instagram.
"And what will we do during the livestream?" Blake asked.
"Just answering questions?" Reece suggested.
"Yeah that's always good." George said.
They didn't talk longer but took Blake's mobile phone and opened Instagram.
I watched them during the livestream as well and had to surpress my laughter sometimes. The boys were really funny and the questions by their fans as well.
It was a nice day and I enjoyed it just like the other days they had already been there.
I wondered what I had done the whole day before they had been here. My life must have been really boring...
