Rays of sunlight shone through the windows of Riverdale high as the sun rose. That's why you liked coming there so early. No noise of bustling hallways, no bullies, no stress, not teachers. Just quiet. Tranquility. You are still pretty new at Riverdale high and don't have very many friends yet. The only person you really talk to is a girl named Betty Cooper, but she was friends with everyone. All of a sudden you hear the front door of the school creak open. You run into the janitor's closet. Is it 7:30 already? You look down at the cheap drugstore watch your mom gave you for your birthday. Nope. Only 6:15.
Who could that be then? You think to yourself.
Someone opens the door of the closet and you gasp. Facing you is a redhead boy and a raven-haired boy.
"Woah! Who are you and what are you doing here?" The raven-haired boy asks, embarrassed. Suddenly you realize you are standing in some sort of makeshift bedroom. A small cot with a thin blanket stands in the corner surrounded by a few books, an old laptop, and a few knick-knacks and clothes strewn about.
"Ah, I'm so sorry! I heard you guys come in and it scared me I guess. The name's Y/N. I moved here about a month ago. What about you guys?"
The redhead is still staring at you.
"Jughead Jones." The raven-haired boy held out his hand. After you shake it, he punches the other boy in the arm. "This is Archie Andrews. I apologize for him. He drools over anything in the form of a woman."
Archie blushes and shakes your hand as well.
"Oh you guys are friends with Betty, right?"
"Yeah I'm her boyfriend and Archie over here is her next door neighbor."
"Ok! And if I may ask, what is going on in here?" You motion over to the closet where you have now shifted out of.
"Oh... Umm... Well, this is sort of where I am living at the moment. But you can't tell Betty! Please, she'll kill me!"
"Of course!" you say. You don't want to lose the trust of two potential friends so you decide to tread lightly around the two of them.
"And what are you doing here so early?" Archie asks.
"It's quiet and I guess I'm kind of a morning person." You say with a smile. "Plus getting watching the sunrise every day, man."
"Sounds pretty bad to me. I value my sleep." Archie says with a chuckle.
"Well anyways, you should come to Pop's with us after school!" Jughead says enthusiastically.
Weird, I didn't think he was an enthusiastic person.
"I'm guessing you don't have many friends since you spend all your time with the sun." He smiles.
There it is.
"Sure! And I'm going to choose to ignore that last comment." You turn around to head out the door. "See you all later, I guess."
They wave back at you and you jog up the stairs to go get stuff from your locker. All of a sudden, you bump into someone.
"Oof!"
"wHAT THE HECK!"
Crap
You realize you spilled black coffee all over the queen bee herself, Cheryl Blossom. The girl who could ruin your life with one push of a button.
"You better watch yourself, new girl. UGH!!!" she storms off.
You gather all your dropped belongings from the ground.
"She must be in a good mood today." A dark haired girl with the most fabulous eyebrows strides up to you and helps you grab the rest of your things. "Veronica Lodge, at your service."
"Man, is the whole Scooby gang here this morning?" You say shaking her hand.
"Haha! You know who you would get along with with comments like that?"
"Jughead?" you answer.
"Yeah! How did you know?"
"Ran into him and sir drools-a-lot this morning as well."
"Oh boy. You can just ignore Archie. He's slowly making his way through the group. You laugh. "Well I'm guessing you're already invited to Pop's then?"
"Yup!"
"Cool! See you then!"
You continue on your way to your locker as the halls start to fill up again. You reach your locker and put in the combination: 20, 06, 24. The lock pops open and you grab your burgundy beanie and Southside Serpent jacket. Now that you might have friends you might as well show your true self to them.
As you head to homeroom, you can feel people's eyes on you. You can feel their eyes digging into every inch of your soul. You can feel them making assumptions, pretending like they know you from just a single glance.
Maybe this was a bad idea.
No
People need to like you for who you really are.
But what if they hate you
Then that's their loss.
Your mind battles back and forth all day until suddenly, the final bell rings and it's time to go to Pops.
Here we go.
You hop in your small mini cooper and drive down the unfamiliar roads until you find yourself in the parking lot of the diner. You walk inside and there they are, sitting at the booth. Jughead spots you at the doorway and motions for you to come over.
"Hey Y/N!" Betty greets you.
"Hi I'm Kevin!" a blonde boy shakes your hand and gives you a big hug like he's known you forever. "Woah sweet jacket!" He says. "My boyfriend is a serpent, you know."
"No way! What's his name?"
"Joaquin."
"Oh, he's the coolest!"
You chat with your new friends for ages, not even realizing that none of them made a rude comment or even mentioned the snake tattoo on your arm. You had finally found people who will accept you for who you are.
