The grass glistened with dew as Betty sat up that morning. Birds were beginning to chirp, and a babbling stream could be heard in the distance.
"Man, what a beautiful day!" She said to herself. Standing up from her sleeping bag, she threw on a light sweatshirt and her sneakers and wandered off towards the sound of the stream. Pushing through leafy branches, she eventually reached the clear water. Clear stones rested on the shore and small fish glided through the water. It was absolute paradise.
She slipped off her shoes and socks, just standing there, soaking up the early morning sun rays.
"Betty?" She heard in the distance.
"Over here Archie!"
A familiar redhead made his way into view, along with Veronica and a groggy Jughead Jones trailing behind, a sandwich in hand.
Rolling her eyes at the ridiculousness of her boyfriend, she beckoned her friends over.
"Who wants to explore!"
"Betty, you know I love you, but there is absolutely no way I'm walking through that mud. These are brand new Gucci sneakers, i couldn't bear to ruin them just yet." Veronica said, peering down at the water reluctantly.
"Well, I'm definitely coming!" Archie exclaimed, running down the hill.
"Jug?"
Jughead looked up from his sandwich, clearly immersed in its many layers.
"Huh? Oh uh... I think I'll just stick to the task at hand."
Laughing, Betty and Archie turn around and start following the stream.
"Fine! You're loss! If we aren't back at the campsite by 12, you're gonna have to come find us whether you want to or not!" Betty winked and ran to catch up with Archie.
Out of nowhere, the stream seemed to stop at a big stone wall.
"Huh..." Archie placed his hands on the cold surface. "It's wet."
"Is there like a door or something?" Betty started wandering around the wall, trying to find some sort of entrance. Suddenly she tripped on a protruding branch. "Oof!" She said, tumbling to the floor.
"Are you-" Archie cut himself off, noticing the wall starting to move.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Betty picked herself up, and turned to face the boy. "What's wrong?"
"I think I found the door." He pointed behind where Betty had tripped. An opening in the wall had formed.
"Should we go in?" She asked reluctantly.
"I don't know Betty, are you up for a new adventure?" He smiled at her, already meandering into the hole. "Woah!" Archie hollered from the other side of the wall.
Betty slowly walked toward the opening, spying a beautiful grotto approaching her. Archie had already taken his shirt off and was about to jump into the crystal clear water awaiting them.
Awestruck, she wandered further into the cave, taking into account the exotic plants and frivolous butterflies congregating by the small waterfall.
"This place is amazing!" Archie screamed as he cannon balled off a rock into the deep crystal blue water.
"It's like a whole other dimension!" Betty still couldn't believe her eyes. "How did this get here?"
"I have no idea, but it's pretty cool."
Suddenly, the door was sealed.
Wide eyed, Betty ran over to where the door had been, banging on the solid rock.
"Shit!" Archie ran over to help her.
Screaming for help, they hadn't seemed to notice the animals scattering. A dark shadow started to approach them.
"Archie, what time is it?"
"What?" He looked at her as if she was crazy. Like time mattered now?!
"I said, what time is it?"
"Quarter past 12." He recited.
"So if our oh so wonderful lovers have any comely of time, The should come looking for us soon."
"Yeah right! Jughead is probably on his fourth sandwich and it was hard enough getting Veronica to come to the safety of the campsite, let alone in the middle of the woods!"
"Well what are we gonna do?"
The shadow kept approaching slowly, now close enough to touch. It placed a hand on Betty's shoulder.
"Archie." He had turned a ghostly shade of white. "What is touching me?" She tried to remain calm.
"M- m- more lik- k- ke wh- who." He stuttered.
Slowly turning around, she faced the darkly clothes woman, her wrinkly fingers still wrapped tightly around Betty's arm.
"Uh... I'm so sorry we intruded..." Betty whimpered.
The hand let go of it's grip on Betty's arm, reaching up to pull off the hood that veiled it's face.
The two friends trebled, unsure of whether they should run (not that there was anywhere to run to) or stay where they were. They chose the latter.
The hood revealed the face of an elderly lady, looking worried herself.
"How did you get in here?" She croaked.
"Uh, w- we I mean I tripped on a branch, and and a door just opened so naturally we walked inside... I am so so so so so sorry to intrude, but we have no idea how to get out and-" Betty rambled on before being cut off by the old woman.
"Oh, nonsense sweety! I love having visitors!"
"What?" Archie's complexion had returned to normal.
"I was just curious as to who stumbled upon my grotto today!" She smiled sweetly, and walked over to the wall, pushing part of it in. The door opened once more, and the two teens let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks for stopping by! I haven't had a visitor in weeks! It's nice to see adventurous faces wander in here!"
She escorted the two of them out, wishing them happy travels before shutting the door once more.
Astonished, Betty and Archie silently walked back towards their campsite, pondering what had just happened.
"Maybe we shouldn't tell anyone about this." Betty said, a confused smile plastered on her face.
"Uh, Yeah. That was kinda crazy."
The walked back though the lady opened omg to their campsite, only to see Veronica organizing the many pairs of clothes she brought and Jughead sacked out in Betty's sleeping bag.
Betty and Archie laughed, plopping down by the fire pit and starting their own activities as if nothing had happened at all.
