Jughead Jones was different. He always wore a beanie. He always wore a flannel. He always had that little black curl peeking out of his hat.
He pushed people away. Doesn't understand love. He's still trying to figure everything out.
His dad is messed up as well. He is a Southside Serpent, Riverdale's gang. This rubbed off on Jughead and gave him a bad reputation.
The rumors. The nicknames. He always knew the right way to fight back.
One day, the gang along with some jocks were sitting in the lounge. Reggie was being particularly annoying that day, especially after Moose and Kevin found Jason's dead body in the river the previous night.
"I mean let's think about it. If a kid at Riverdale killed Jason, it's not gonna be a jock, right? Now let's be honest. Isn't it always some spooky, scrawny, pathetic internet troll? Too busy writing his manifestos to get laid? Some smug, moody, serial killer fanboy freak, like Jughead. (Laughs) What was it like Suicide Squad? When you shot Jason. You didn't do stuff to the body, did you? Like...After" Reggie asks, feeling like the cleverest boy alive. With a smug smirk on his face the entire time.
Jughead wasn't gonna take it. He fires back:
"It's called necrophilia, Reggie. Can you spell it?"
"Come here you little..." Reggie lunges at Jughead but Archie stops him. They always have his back. No matter what he's like, how different he is from them. From everyone. And he always has theirs.
Another time, when Betty threw the unwanted birthday party which Cheryl and her goons crashed, he really protected them.
Betty and Jughead have just started dating. He started to open up. As did she. But she didn't tell him everything. Not yet. But because he had secrets of his own, he didn't mind. Cheryl decided to sit them all in a circle and expose them of their deepest, darkest secrets. And boy did chuck know a lot about Betty.
"Well I guess it's my turn now," Chuck starts with that dumb, douchey smile on his face. "Boy, do I have a twisted secret to reveal. Starring Betty Cooper."
"Leave her the hell alone Chuck," Archie says.
"Shut up Andrews! You may get a free peep show every night but you do not know her. Hell, Betty doesn't even know herself. Everyone knows why I got suspended. But what you don't know, (sighs) she dressed up like a hooker. In a God-awful black wig. Drugged me, handcuffed me to the jacuzzi..."
Both Jughead and Betty had looks of horror on their faces.
"and I almost drowned until she got me to say what she wanted to hear. And then she actually lost it. She actually thought she was Polly. But hey, you knew all about this, right Jughead?"
Suddenly, Jughead whips around and slams his fist into Chuck's face. Then Chuck gets back up and shoves him so hard he falls onto the glass table behind him which shatters. FP drags the boy out of the house and screams for him to never set foot near the house again. There's Juggie, always there to protect. He was finally getting the hang of this love thing, even if he didn't know it.
He is weird. He wants to be weird. He doesn't want to be like everyone, doesn't want to fall into stereotypes. He wants to be loved for who he is. And he finally found the right people who do just that.
