Chapter 21

Ryan's P.O.V

"Ryan!" shouted my father.

Here we go.

"You let them walk free?! They were trespassing!" he yelled more once he got to my office.

"Yes dad I'm aware of that." I said in a bored tone.

"Why?!" he slammed his fist on my desk.

"I couldn't do anything. I just froze." i said in a low voice replaying what happened an hour ago.

"I don't have anything against vampires but trespassing is going to be a big problem-..."

I was sitting in my office-hearing but not listening-to my dad go on and on. I am Alpha after all, this is my pack now. I know all the do's and dont's. However trespassing is a big deal in our pack, if it was someone else I would have taken them to one of our cells and teach them a lesson.

"Look Ryan, all I'm saying is you can't let these things slide. This could put our pack in danger one day. You can't be so oblivious."

"I know, but this is my pack now. You seem to be forgetting that. You had your chance and you did good, but im the Alpha here, not you. I decide what's best for my pack."

"Excuse me?" he asked as if what i was saying wasn't true.

I was Alpha and all but then I had to remember that I was still talking to my dad. I actually can't believe im giving him this title still but, it is what it is at this point. "I mean...i understand dad, I knew what to do. But I just couldn't do it."

"Look. I know this is still new for you, and you're a little scared, nervous. But you gotta do what you gotta do to protect your pack. No matter how difficult, its part of being alpha. Believe me, its not easy and can be very scary."

"No dad I'm not scared. I just...look in order for you to understand I need to tell you the whole story."

"I have time."

"So long story short, when I started high school I met a really cool guy who later on in life, became best friend, you know him right? Jeremy?"

"Yes. Oh I know him alright." he said in a disapproving tone.

"Truth is, Jeremy is no human. He was the only supernatural at the school, that's why it was easier for him and i to click. He is a vampire. The Prince of the King clan."

"Ryan, I'm David Stone. I was Alpha of grey viper, did you really think i couldn't smell that idiot from eighteen miles away? But never mind that, he?! Is the prince?! Of that powerful family? Literally nothing about him even indicates that."

"Yeah unbelievable I know. But anyway, later I made a new friend, who had been helping me improve my maths marks."

"Caroline Parker."

"What? Wait dad how do you know about her?" asked in complete disbelief.

"I'm your father, so I had to make sure she wasn't a threat or anything. When I found out she was a vampire, i had my guard up and had someone follow her. She was a Parker after all."

"Dad!"

"Turns out she's clean. She isn't like her evil makers, surprisingly."

"Are you going to do this with all my friends?" i asked sounding like a child, but that was because of how shocked i was.

"Til death do me part."

"Oh my-anyway, as I was saying...the introduction of her in our lives was basically where shit hit the fan. I was spending a lot of time with her and I was starting to like her. Both she and I had unexplained chemistry dad.

It's like i had already claimed her without truly confirming it. I wasn't myself when I didn't see her, even if i was a for a minute. I hated it when she was with other guys. I wanted to be the reason she smiled everyday, the reason she looked forward to coming to school. She did the littlest things that would automatically make me smile and i soon came to the scary realization that I was actually in love with her dad. I wanted to be with her. I wanted her to be mine."

He smiles widely. "You were... What does Katie like calling it again..." he looks up, the smile still plastered on his face. "Whipped? Yea, you were whipped.

This fifty something year old man just said i was whipped? I couldn't help but chuckle and shake my head.

"Yes. Whatever. I was whipped. Crazy in love. Stuck on stupid. Drunk in love. All of it." i admit.

"Alright carry on. This is not a 'long story short' story by the way."

"And i thought you had all the time in the world." he actually rolls his eyes at me. I think dad has been spending too much time with Katie, it's getting out of hand.

"Anyway, when Jeremy saw just how close she and I were, he got jealous. Jeremy loved getting attention from anyone and anyhow he could get it, so the fact that Caroline and I were suddenly close made him feel the need to challenge me.

Like i said, this is a long story short. So Jeremy somehow convinced her father that they should get married and they did. It was total bull really but she agreed too. I took that as an indication that she'd made her pick and so I backed off and let them live their lives. Jeremy didn't care about her and both of us knew that, he just wanted to prove a stupid point. So I stopped trying to contact her because I thought it would be best if I let her forget about me, i didn't want to complicate her life, although i felt it in my heart that i really wanted to be with her.

I was making progress and had made peace with the fact that maybe she wasn't the one. But all of that changed when I found her and Jeremy in our territory. They were the uninvited guests. I had promised myself that the only girl I'd fight for that hard again was my mate and she was the only one that mattered and I'd wait for her. But then all of that went out the window when I saw her. She was on the floor, hurt."

"So? They heal. Especially Caroline. She is literally the one thing stronger then even a hybrid. She could have healed in seconds."

"I know. But you should have heard her cries of pain dad, i mean if even she couldn't heal then it must have been really bad. Like i said before, I froze when I saw both of them but my heart stopped when I saw my mate lying there on the ground hurt and there was nothing I could do about it. I know Caroline, and the look in her eyes, she was actually scared."

"Oh." he said in sad realization. "She's been yours all along. She's been what you've been waiting for."

"He called my mate 'baby' dad, and I was right there!" I said now pissed off again and annoyed that my mate was with someone else.

I knew it, i knew that i felt different when I was with Caroline. That's why my wolf begged to surface whenever i was with her. He was trying to tell me that we had found our mate. A connection that can be established if only he was in control.

"Look son I get why you did what you did. However, keep in mind that we are a pack and without our Luna, we are weak."

"I know dad. But I don't know what to do."

"Of course you do, go get what's yours."
