"Raya?!"

"Yup! That's my name, don't wear it out!"

"What are doing? I thought you said-"

"I know what I said, Will! " I hear her pause at the other end, could hear loud music blaring in the background.
I hear voices on the other end.

"What's going on?"

" I'm having a grand old time with people I have no interest being around."she sounded like she was laughing and crying at the same time.

"Are you drunk?"

"No." A pause,"Yes."

"Where are you?"

"Why do you want to know? Its got nothing to do with you. In any case, its your fault that I'm here." She answered.

"What? what do you mean?"

"I got laid off today. So thanks for that."

The sarcasm in her tone was not lost on me. It had to have something to do with the merger. But how was that my fault?

"Why do you keep butting in my life?I want nothing to do with you, but you keep popping up when i least expect it. First when You just showed up at the ballroom, and now this. Its like  something or someone is fucking with me."

I had no real response to that.

How could I even reply?

"....And your face is stupid, A stupid  handsome face. I wanna wipe it off with a dirty rag." She ranted, "You suck. And I'm a dumbass for being attracted to you. You need to get out of my life."

Did I just hear her correctly?

There's no way.

"What? What did you say?"

"You suck."

"Before that."

"You're too damn attractive. Do me a favor and walk into a wall or something, I can't deal with your face!"

So she found me attractive...

Well, that's a start.

"Where are you?" I ask again.

"None of your business will!" She slurred,"you're not my boyfriend,I'm a grown ass woman, and I do what I want!"

I know I'm not your boyfriend, but I want to be.

"And", she added, "even if you were my boyfriend, I don't have to tell you a goddamn thing!"

"Raya-"

"Oh my goooooosh, RaYyyyyy, is that your boyfriend?" I heard a voice drag on the other end.

I can hear them breathing in the receiver.Rapid inhales and exhales that probably reek of liquor.
"Get off me Tara , I ain't your friend! And this ain't my boyfriend either!"

"Heyyyy random guy, I hope you show my friend here a good time,if you know what I mean!" The drunk girl cackled, before being shooed or shoved away with an audible OOF!

"Don't mind the drunk bitch, she's drunk."

"But you're drunk too."

"So what?are you my grandma now?"

"Where are you? Ill send a cab for you."

"Ughhh you're annoying."

"I take that as a compliment."

"Whatever."
Silence fell over us for several minutes, as the music in the background changed to a slow ballad.

"Why did you do that?" She asked, her voice sounding somber.
"Do what?"

"Kiss me."

I felt my heart skip a beat; my mind hurtling back to that day in the snow. Should I tell her the truth, or lie?Because no matter what I tell her she's probably going to take it in the wrong way.

I did it because I was desperate.

Because I wanted to.

Because I don't want to keep pretending anymore.

There were so many reasons why that were dancing on my tongue, ready to be spoken, but none of them seemed right.

"I..."

Say something.
You're a grown man.
Say something.

"What do you... want me to say?"

"I want the truth, obviously ."

"Because I ...I "

There's so many brilliant things i could've said in this moment. Rosy, eloquent words that, when spoken sounded like poetry.words I could be easily conjured up in any other situation. But instead, I was struggling to find words that didn't make me sound like a complete creep.

"Actually, I don't care. Whatever you say is probably going to be something creepy that I'd rather not hear. Honestly that's your only flaw GQ. You're a creep."

"I'm not a creep. You just haven't given me the chance to show you otherwise."

"Alright then, GQ, make my day. Come and show me you're not a creep. We'll see who gets the last laugh when I haunt your ass from the grave."

She then tells me where she is;at some bar not far from my apartment.

I'm going there myself lest she gets herself into more trouble....
