Scott could not believe who was running against him for junior class president. Mitchell Grassi. The pair had once been best friends but they had a falling out right before entering high school. Scott honestly couldn't remember what their fight was about but all that mattered now was that he hated the boy. And there was no way he was going to lose this election.

He began plotting with Kevin and Jeremy, his two best friends who had inadvertently become his campaign managers. The only issue there was that Jeremy was dating Kirstie, Mitch's best friend. Scott made sure to lay down the law about keeping secrets so they didn't get leaked to the enemy camp. Of course the pair of boys rolled their eyes but agreed nonetheless.

Mitch was obviously not thrilled to discover his ex-friend was running for junior class president alongside him. He vented his frustrations to Avi and Kirstie who had agreed to help him win. How the blonde bimbo expected to win over him was beyond Mitch's comprehension. But he was determined not to let Scott beat him.

The weeks went by the election growing closer and closer. The two boys were all but bribing people to vote for them. It was no longer about what was best for the student body, but more so not allowing the other to win. Their friends had taken a back seat and honestly both groups were sick of it. Kirstie demanded a meeting of the minds to decide what to do.

"This is ridiculous. I'm sick of Mitch stomping around acting like a diva and dictating when I can see my own boyfriend." The short girl complained, Jeremy nodded his head in agreement.

Kevin spoke next, "we have to do something. Scott is getting on my last nerve."

"Guys, why don't we just quit. I mean they've been bossing us around for almost a month now and it seems as if we're all over it," the group agreed with Avi's sentiments, "let's just be done. Let them do it themselves for the last week. We'll just sit back and watch the trainwreck. We can sort out all the scrap metal afterwards."

All for erupted in a round of "yea" before agreeing that they would sit together at lunch, therefore, driving Scott and Mitch away for their table. No way either would sleep with the enemy in that regard.

The following day the plan was put into action. Each boy seething when they saw the group sitting together. As predicted, neither sat down, rather they retreated from the cafeteria. Their friends were only minutely concerned as they were too busy making new connections to people they had never had a chance to interact with.

Scott had seen the scene last and fled into the nearest bathroom to eat his lunch. He could have sat at another table but how would it look for the future class president to be rejected by his best friends?

Little did he know Mitch had also selected the same hiding spot. Scott's heart broke when he found the brunette crying in the handicapped stall. Yes, they were sworn enemies at the moment but at one point in their lives they had been best friends and Scott couldn't ignore the pang in his chest when he looked at the small boy.

"You got ditched too, huh?"

"Why do you care?" Mitch retorted.

"Still sassy I see," he replied, sinking down next to Mitch. "I care because we're in the same boat."

Mitch sniffled and accepted the tissues the blonde gave him to wipe his eyes. "Ugh, I can't go to class like this. I look like a mess."

"No you don't... but if you want, we can alway skip the rest of the day?"

"Me... skip class? With you?"

"Well, I mean we can always just skip separately. I know I don't feel like sitting through English or History today."

"I mean I guess. But I've never skipped before."

Scott rolled his eyes, "Why am I not surprised?" Mitch glared as the blonde continued, "it's easy. We just wait for the bell then we make a run for it."

"But what if..." Mitch was cut off, Scott already knowing what he was going to ask.

"We won't get caught. Just follow me."

As soon as the bell rang the pair darted to the nearest exit walking to the parking lot. Mitch started for his spot before groaning. Scott looked back at the boy

"I rode with Kirst today so I don't have my car. I guess I'm walking home."

Scott pressed the button to unlock his car, "hop in. I'll give you a ride. You still stay next to the elementary school?"

"I do but I can't go home. Not yet at least. My dad's off today and if he finds out I skipped, I'm grounded until graduation."

Scott chuckled, "you can just chill at mine. I'll take you home later. Okay?"

The brunette was hesitant, "ummm, I-I guess that's okay."

Surprisingly Mitch didn't mind hanging out with Scott. They kind of picked up where they had left off after the summer of eighth grade when they stopped speaking. For rest of the week leading up to the election the pair hide out in the bathroom talking and chatting. The Thursday before the election Scott remembered why he and Mitch had dissolved their friendship. They were running away from their feelings. However, the past week had caused something to bubble inside Scott and he couldn't deny it. On Friday, before the ballots were passed out he withdrew his name. Mitch was a beautiful human who deserved this way more than he ever did.

When he picked up his own ballot later that day he was surprised and confused to see only one name under junior class president. His name was gone but so was Mitch's. He immediately picked up his phone and text the brunette.

Scott: They made a mistake on the ballot! Your name is missing!

Mitch: So is yours!!!

Scott: I dropped out...

Mitch: ... So did I

Scott: Meet me in the first floor boy's bathroom ASAP!!!

Mitch didn't bother replying, he just marked his ballot, voting for Lucas, and asked for a pass. He find his new blonde friend in the handicapped stall where they had spent lunch the past few days.

"Why would you drop out Scott??"

"You deserved it more than I did. And I can ask you the same thing! You wanted this so badly."

"I wasn't right for the job though. You were so much more qualified than I was..."

"I shouldn't have ran."

"Yes, you should have, you were..."

"No! I'm not talking about the election," Mitch was confused. "I'm talking about eighth grade Mitchy." The brunette smiled at the old nickname. "I was lying to myself about what I was feeling so I decided to cut ties and run. I was wrong."

"What do you mean your feelings?"

"I mean I liked you Mitchell.... I-I still do. This past week with you has been like old times but I want more... I-I want this."

Before Mitch could reply, Scott pinned him to the wall and began to kiss him. Although shocked at first the brunette melted into the embrace. After a few moments Scott pulled away and looked to Mitch for his reaction. The smaller boy kept his eyes closed as he spoke.

"I guess it's a good thing we both dropped out. Class presidents have a lot of responsibilities but since neither of us can win, we have more time for dates now."

"Are you... like for real right now?"

"Yes, I am Scotty. I like you too. I always have."

The two walked out of school hand-in-hand. Their friends all noticing. Avi leaned over the whisper in Kevin's ear, "you owe me 20 bucks."
