I woke up on a hospital bed the next day. With someone holding my arm so tightly. I saw that Dane was holding it.
He also woke up and he grinned at me. Yinakap niya ako ng sobrang higpit.
"Can't... breathe." I muttered and then he released me.
"I'm sorry." His voice was filled with sadness and he looked guilty.
"Bakit ka nagsosorry, Dane?"
"I wasn't there to protect you Halo. Huli na nang nakita kitang nakahiga sa semento. They left you there to die. Those kids have no heart. Hinayaan ka nila doon at tumakbo sila. Kuya Ex was screaming when he saw us. Agad siyang tumawag ng ambulansya. I was worthless. Hindi kita naprotektahan kahit na I promised you. I'm so worthless. Hindi ko kayang mabuhay pag namatay ka."
He layed his head down.
"I'm sorry." Then I saw a tear prickle down his face. I wiped it with my bear hands. Kahit hindi ako masyadong makahinga I smiled at him.
"It isn't your fault Dane. Don't put the blame on yourself."
"Iniwan kita doon!"
"But you came back. Bata pa tayo. Huwag kang mag-alala we're just 7. You can protect me for a lifetime."
He smiled.
