"Out of the way!"
"Pidge/Katie!"
It hurt, as they had waited anxiously and could do nothing as the Green Lion fought bravely against Lotor's cruiser. They were baffled and screaming, roaring for her to stop when she got out of her lion to face Lotor who was doing the same thing.
She got a few hits in but that's all they could see as a cloud of violet smoke surrounded everything around them, surprisingly not touching the paladins. When the smoke cleared the shackles broke immediately before horror plastered across their faces when they saw green armor that clung to a small person on the ground. They didn't even take notice of Lotor's ship in the distance. Shiro was the first to run full speed, everyone following while they screamed the name of the fallen paladin. Praying to every unseen deity that she was alive.
Shiro slid to a stop with armor scraping against the rough terrain, frantically looking for a pulse. To his terror, he found none. He began to compress on her chest.
No, he hadn't wanted it this way. He had wanted their kisses to be amazing, exhilarating. All the words he could describe her with. Perhaps after a mission, the adrenaline of a victory still pumping through them. Or a quiet moment in her laboratory where their silent confessions could be understood by only them. Instead, he pressed against cold lips with his own, attempting to supply oxygen into her deprived body.
Keith was sobbing as Lance continued to reassure himself that everything was going to be fine and that Pidge was still alive. Hunk had run to contact Allura about the situation, sputtering fragments of words with tears and snot.
Shiro would've continued had Coran not pulled him off. He was hysteric, shouting, screaming that he could fix it. Coran's eyes drifted to the dead body of the Green paladin.
"Please, don't take away Katie. Not my Katie. Please." He cried.
"Pidge...She's dead." Lance wailed, welling up with tears as his body trembled.
Keith cursed to the heavens, Hunk sobbed into his hands. Lance threw a tantrum and Shiro fell to his knees, taking Katie's body into his hands.
He cried, wailed, sobbed, howled.
Emotions that ranged from vengeance to depression sat in a monotone color scheme. So he joined Keith's screams to the heavens, because how could anyone send his beautiful Katie anywhere besides the angelic placement she deserved.
Hours later, the four paladins wallowed in their rooms. Coran had taken Pidge's body for preservation and Allura made her way into her father's retired office.
She sat down on the posh chair before clicking a button that summoned a camera-like contraption. She sighed and looked into the device, Pidge had created it. Her eyes caught sight of her destructed expression.
"October 20, 7805, the pilot of the Green Lion passed. Pidge Gunderson, otherwise known as Katelyn Holt, died honorably whilst fighting Lotor, son of Zarkon. She may rest in peace now, away from the war."
She logged off the camera and sighed, breathing in sharply. Allura knew everybody would be broken, had she not dealt with death before she would be joining them in their sorrow. The Altean's stare fell downcast on an untouched file in her father's digital work pieces.
Curiously, she clicked it open.
