"Matt..." Shiro breathed.
"In the flesh, did you really think you could get rid of me so easily?" He laughed, his happiness seemed off and it broke the stiff expression he carried seconds ago.
"What did you...How..."
"The Blade of Marmora contacted me, I had told them to look for him when I was in their service." Keith smiled, worried that Shiro might pass out.
"Paladin of Voltron, eh? You didn't head back to Earth?"
"N-No, I did. I was shipped back there when I was picked up by Keith. Lance found the Blue Lion and we ended up here."
"Oh," Matt paused, leaving Shiro curious. "I was hoping you had heard something about my family. Mom and Katie...I'm sure they're fine."
Shiro's expression darkened, no one had said her name in his presence since her death. The sound ricocheted within his mind.
"Katie? You mean Pidge?" Lance asked softly, Matt would have gotten whiplash had he turned any quicker.
Soon enough a glowing staff with a sharp tip was held against Lance's throat. They hadn't even seen Matt move, only a blur that carried noise. Everyone except Shiro had turned their weapons towards Katie's brother.
"How do you know my baby sister?"
"S-She was a-"
"She was a classmate of his. Nothing more, put the weapon down."
"Shiro, he's going to have to find out. You won't be able to hide it forever." Keith barked.
"Hide what? What's he talking about?"
"Nothing!"
"Shiro, tell him!" Hunk ordered, leaving a confused Matt and terrified Shiro.
"What is it? C'mon, you can tell me." Matt pleaded politely.
"K-Katie..."
"My sister?"
"K-Katie..."
Matt grinned hopefully, destroying every ounce of dignity left in Shiro. The tall staff was now removed from Lance's nape, all eyes on Shiro now.
"She's alright?"
"K-Katie is d-dead."
Just as fast as before, Matt pointed his weapon at the man who had once saved his life. Rage and the same type of agony was staring at Shiro's eyes. Tears welling up in the corners of his eyes.
It was as if the strength to kill Shiro drained out of Matt in an instant. The rebel dropped his staff and slumped to the ground.
"How?"
"She saved all of us, Pidge died with honor." Allura said simply.
"I don't care! Why didn't any of you try to save her?" He shouted.
"We couldn't, Lotor had us chained up. We don't know why she wasn't as well." Keith trailed.
"Matt...If I could replace myself for her than I would. I want nothing more than to see her here, we have grieved many days." Shiro's voice cracked.
"I trusted you!" Matt cried.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
The Holt son began to scream a string of curses at his past superior. Now they were in a war and his sister, his baby sister, was dead.
Abruptly, the castle's monitors opened up a screen with a familiar face.
"Kolivan?" Keith asked.
"Greetings, paladins and company, my apologies for such a sudden call but this is an emergency. I urge you to watch the footage that one of my men took at the Galra base. I will be there as soon as possible."
"Thank you, Kolivan. We await your arrival and see it immediately." Allura stated before Kolivan logged off.
Coran searched quickly to grab the video sent by the Galra. He found it and presented it over a larger screen.
It appeared as though the entire Galra society were gathered around a ebony palace. The balcony revealed four figures, Lotor's personal generals. The crowd cheered as the prince stepped into view.
"Citizens of our great empire, I thank you for your time and willingness to join me in a most joyous celebration. As a young boy, I dreamt of sharing my life with someone whom I loved and that still stands. I am proud and excited to present to you my fiancé, my people, meet-"
"Katie?"
